No fatalities in any incident.

Wow, that's GREAT. :) Did the person in the van get out before it burst into flames? I can see that it's on the side of the road, but it looks like it might have been just pulling off because of the way the tires are situated.

I wouldn't know. I wasn't at that particular incident. Most likely he smelled and saw smoke and pulled over and got out before it went BLAMMO!

Candles and incense should be banned in multi-family dwellings :grumpy:

Edited to add: What a hell of a thread for me to be in :D

Ken;

The apparatus in the first photo looks like a 70's era American LaFrance on a Ford cabover chassis. And it looks like it is a two man cab, which means tailboarding. And a Hale 2 stage pump?

Is it really a front line apparatus? :eek:

That's a 1976 American LaFrance with open side seats. It was a front line rig up until a few days ago when we replaced it with a 2005 Pierce. And yes, it is a 2 Stage Hale pump. And it pumps better than most of our newer rigs.

I love those old Hale two stage pumps, and I do agree; beats the hell out of the Darley pumps my department uses.

We have one rig with the same cab as that one in the pic (it's a '76 Western States), and it was relegated to reserve status in 1997.

Great old trucks.

We actually have 3 American LaFrance rigs as reserves. The one we just replaced and 2 that are stick shifts. I hate driving those. Double clutching blows monkey chunks. I can never find the pump gear easily. I have to slam that bitch into 4th gear and then pin it in place before I switch to pump. And forget about reverse!! If you can't find it, grind it!!! One of the rigs hardly needs the clutch anymore....you can shift without it once you get it up to speed in second gear. The pumps are die hard but the rigs are rusting away.

Incense should be safe when used properly and attended.
Most folks I've known who burn incense are baked when they light it & shouldn't be trusted w/ anything more complicated/dangerous than a bag of Doritos. And damned near all incense smells like cat pee to me anyway- can't stand the stuff- kills my sinuses. But that's just me- YMMV.
