Some good cheap knives...VIDEOS!!!

Nice vids. I have all 4 of those folders although I have smaller versions of the Opinel and sodbuster.

Thanks guys! Nice taste stevekt...hehehe, I think I want the small sodbuster myself, and the rollock II...At these prices it a good possability Ill get them too, just a matter of when...

Great stuff! Those vids are a great way of getting the word out on these cheap but fantastic knives (hopefully not just fellow knifeknuts are viewing them :D). I have a couple dozen Opinels, and my first two Moras are on the way. Good work!

Question: Does anybody know what kind of steel Victorinox uses on their blades?

I have my little Victorinox Pocket knife, and of course I love it but I have always been curious about this

Good question, all I could find on their site is a decription for stainless...

Myabe its like CASE cutlery in that they just don't say what kind... ;)

Nice vids!

Does anyone else get nervous anytime someone unsheaths a knife with their fingers wrapped around the entire sheath? Am I just a weirdo?

Hmmmm. Maybe. But it's not like it's a mystery super steel or anything, otherwise these knives would be a lot more expensive. So they don't really
need to hide it. But I just wonder why they don't show you.... Like, anywhere.

The only time a knife company usually doesn't disclose it's type of steel is if it's really good or really shitty

Thanks, what do you mean by wrapped aroudn the entire sheath? In the Mora video a few models are a snug fit, and sort of snap in, so I needed to get a good grip on the sheath to get the knife out...Is that what you are talking about?

Your right,m they are not hiding it because its amazing, but most likely because either they don't want to say where they get it from, or because they just don't want anyone to know its just average...either way it is a mystery for a few companies...but its got to be at least 440C, it performs well and from my own experience is on par with somethgin like 440C or similar...at least in edge retention, and ease of sharpening...

Ok, well I got 2 more videos up tonight..one on my humble balisong collection, and one on my fire kit, to better explain what I did in that 1st video using the flint and steel...

I agree. I'd assume 440C or 440A. Because it's not used for heavy cutting, so edge retention isn't as important as the corrosion resistance, which 440 steel is known for. Since they know these knives are going to be everywhere, they know they will be wet or moist at some point in time, and they want them to keep being shiny.

My dad has had the same vitcorinox knife for over 10 years. The blade on it is about 1/8 shorter from all the sharpening, but the steel is still nice and shiny!

Cutlerylover, where did you find that blue and yellow handled/yellow sheathed Clipper, by the way?

D'oh! Nevermind, I found them at SMKW. :)

I was thinking the same thing! I got nervous whenever the blade was wiped also.

Oh ok, thanks...It might look as though I am just doing those kidns of thgins while I talk, but I am aware of what I am doing, never been cut from wiping a blade yet, or taking a knife out of the sheath...But thank you for letting me know anyway! ;) You can never be too safe...

The Vic Steel is often listed as Inox, and is similar to 12C27m I believe. I have also heard it referred to as 425M. I don't think it is either one of those steels, so much as the formulas are the same. I believe the hardness is in the 55-56 range.

Thats interesting...Its funny how with all the new age super steels out there no one ever complains about their simple SAKs...lol...

Ok, I just added 3 more videos on some simple balisong moves for beginners...
