Some good news and a little sort of bad news from BirGorkha.

Let's deal with the bad news first.

Dasein is coming up in a couple of weeks and BirGorkha will be mostly closed except for some puja to be done in the shop. Remember, we have 25 or 30 people living rent free on the second floor and even in the shop (apprentices) so BirGorkha is actually their home. Little work will get done and we will fall farther behind. If I were an expert on the smileys as some are I would post one with tears falling down his face.

Now the good news.

Pala and Gelbu will take time during Dasein to recruit some master kamis and sarkis. There will be many showing up at BirGorkha from around the country to seek employment during the holidays and we will pick 3 or 4 of the best and put them to work on a probation basis. If they can do the work required to meet the excellence expected at BirGorkha they will be put on permanently and assigned a mark of their own. We hope that sarkis will have names!

Additionally, we are planning to physically expand the factory. We need 3 or 4 more forges. Six is simply not enough. And we will be adding more equipment.

When we get all this accomplished we hope that we can catch up and start handling some of our shelf work.

We will give every worker a Dasein gift of cash -- more for the old timers and those who do consistently fine work (who will this leave out?) and less for the newer people. The gift will amount to about a month's pay for a kami at any other shop but at BirGorkha it will amount to a week or ten day's work -- not a lot but enough to assure that the kamis and their families will be able to buy goats and chickens for puja and food. In essence a paid holiday.

Bear with us. We are going to get caught up!

You DON'T want to get caught up!

Bill, you have finally gotten yourself into the very situation you've worked to get to for the last decade. Now slow down and thoroughly savor and enjoy your problems.

I am happy that the workers of BirGorkha get this time off and get the cash gift. It speaks very highly of HI. Plus, as we all know, high employee morale contributes, ultimately, to quality production. And our having to deal with the delay is a small price to pay for the wonderful khuks created in BirGorkha. Tell the workers that we wish them well, Uncle BIll.

Drat, the tears don't show up on this light background. Trust me, he's bawlin' (ain't we all? So many knives, so little money)

Everyone needs a break now and then.

I know that some of us get impatient at times, like the Yvsa Cherokee Special, but what the hey!!!
They will be done when they're supposed to be and the anticipation of getting something really special is worth the wait.

There isn't another source anywhere that provides the quality of the khukuris that HI provides!!!
I would bet that not many sales are lost from haveing to wait, annit?

We will try to get some pix of puja in the shop if we can.

Rusty, I DO want to get caught up!

We will get your message across, Steven, and many thanks. They will be sending up a few for us for sure.

Tom, thanks for the crying smiley. I'll take your word about the tears.

And Yvsa, many thanks for astute observations. We will get that Yvsa Special done and I am hoping they do as well on it as they have done on the past wood models we sent over. But we may have to do some fine tuning with the little tools and scabbard.

Uncle, I understand. Always a wee bit behind is one thing, where you're at now another.
But remember too how much progress has been made. Think of how far shop 2, then Birghorka has come in a short time.

Better to keep making khuks that are worth waiting for. Another year should be awesome if it's like the last.

I also agree a few standards ( 15 AK, 18 WWII, BAS ) ought to be stock items on hand over here. Just don't get so caught up you gotta shut down til you sell off in-country supplies. Keep them kamis working is all I meant.
