Some good news out of Benchmade

So No MAP pricing?

Umm no that is not what it said.

MAP = Minimum Advertised Price, which is still in place. BM did note that the dealers can sell the knives for whatever they want tho.

More good news: BM will be all Made in the USA, no more Red Class.

Darn, red class knives were actually only Benchmade's in my price range ( darn toll limit )... Oh, well it only temporary pain to pay 120-350€'s on Benchmade's ( close to Sebbies price :D ) nativelly.. Perhaps I will save up for Sebbie before getting Benchmade as we actually have dealer for CRK in Finland, would you believe or not ^^

That's not what I read... i think some knives from HK and HD lines will still be made offshore and some of the Red Class knives will be integrated into those lines in one form or anoher (like recent release of G10 Pika)

It is with this commitment to quality in mind that we are proud to announce beginning in January 2010, all Benchmade branded products will be made in the USA at our factory in Oregon City, Oregon.

If it says Benchmade on it it'll be made in the USA.

The HKs, HDs, etc don't say Benchmade on them.

Well, it would be a pity to drop the Nagara from the catalogue, it's a truly exquisite and nicely made knife that would cost quite a bit more made in the west. I always thought the idea of a Harley knife a bit stupid (I don't need a BMW knife either), hence a HD Nagara wouldn't feel as right a Benchmade-branded one.

All Benchmades, it doesn't say anything about HK or HD knives.

Yes I know that was the exact point I was making. There used to be many knives labeled as Benchmades that were not made in the USA. That will no longer be the case. The HK and HDs are not labeled as Benchmades thus they might still be produced outside of the US.

My original post and the fact of the matter still holds: BM will be all Made in the USA, no more Red Class.

Well, that's settled :)
(HD knives do have Benchmade logo on the reverse side of the blade, but that may change in 2010. Sorry, couldn't resist ;))
