I am starting to look at kydex and leather sheaths and was wondering if you guys could give me a list of people who make them for becker knives. Also i'm trying to decide which one would be a better fit for the knives I really like the look of leather and feel as though it would be more comfortable to wear i think kydex would be overall more functional(no straps to retain the knife it just snaps in). Opinions would be great on which sheath material you prefer. Thanks, Dave

For kydex I recommend 710 & AZWELKE. Both do excellent work & have websites set up so you can check out their sheaths and accessories. I got a sheath for my 16 from 710 & a couple of other things. He's really good about keeping the communication going and makes a top notch product at a good price.
For leather either B.Mauser or skystorm. Mauser made a sheath for my 9 that is awesome. I mean bomb proof with outstanding fit & finish. And Mauser is a pretty great guy so that's always a plus.

Personally, I prefer kydex, because it dries fast and drains out if it gets wet. I think leather has a bit better life-span, though, and has the classic sheath look.

I've gotten really good kydex from Godspeed and Azwelke. I'd recommend Skystorm or Goose (Sagewood Gear) for leather.

There are many people here on the forums that seem to deliver quality work. I've only got experience with Azwelke and I can attest for the quality of his kydex sheaths

I make my own kydex sheaths. I definitely prefer kydex over leather. Very durable and much better than leather if you are around water a lot like I usually am. I have a pic on fb and am going to see if it will work here...

I also might try my hand at making a kydex sheath, but im thinking for my 16 which i want to carry on my belt i would rather have it professionally done i also am seeing some with a leather belt loop that might give me the best of both worlds.

I'm all about kydex. I have one from AZWelke for my BK9 and it's great. I hear good things about 710 and the prices on his website are pretty good.

Kydex does seem to be a little better value, i think i might look into kydex.im thinking wet leather probably wouldnt mix too well with carbon steel

Sorry, I'm not really a Becker owner, but I'm slightly obsessed with sheaths.

I really don't like leather as it takes 4 years to dry and I hate damp stuff and so do my knives. I quite like Kydex, but find the area needed around the knife to keep it clamped together and secure a bit over the top. On some of my knives it almost triples the width they take up which isn't cool. Apart from that it's awesome.

I had a sheath made by a boot maker out of Lorica, a magical leather like material which is waterproof. On the inside I have a further waterproof backing to be doubly sure if it somehow got water in the dampness wouldn't be in contact with the knife. Very pleased with it so far. I had a pair of motorcycle boots made from the same stuff and was so impressed with how waterproof and long lasting they were I thought it'd work perfect for a sheath. It doesn't absorb any water. I don't know why knife makers don't use it, it has the traditional leather look but it's way better.

Leather sheaths put me off knives because I know I'll have to put a ton of effort into finding a replacement and I'm paying for something I'll probably never use.

alfk, the name of the material is lorica? where can I get some? I like to experiment with different materials. Right now I'm salvaging the new becker sheaths, they feel to be better quality than the older ones, and adding a kydex liner after removing the insert.

I'm a kydex fan, but I love leather too. In my experience, I've had nothing but great service and quality gear from the 710. He is my primary go-to guy for sheaths.

Yeah i really like the looks of leather too especially for a belt knife i think both would be good options kydex might have a few more options for attachments, I like the 710s sheaths with the leather belt loops that might be something for me to consider

thanks for all the advice

Dave

Not too difficult to waterproof leather, It also is not affected by extreme heat or cold like plastic.

I like leather, The majority of my sheaths are skystorm. The small bk 14 sheath is sagewood. I believe now.
