First time I've messed around Gunkote and I really like it! Sorry for the bad pics, but thought I'd share them.

I've had these sitting on my bench for about 6 months, my grinder broke and I'm packing up my knifemaking stuff as we're moving back to LA. Probably won't be making anything for about a year or two. Thought I'd finish the handles on these before I chucked everything in a box. Shame I can't sharpen it, as I rely on my grinder to apply the convex edge.

By the way, they're 3/16" thick A2, hardened to HRC 60 by Paul Bos. Both have full distal tapers with a flat grind to the spine. The top one has an edge thickness of .010" (my slicer) and the second has an edge thickness of .020" (my all rounder). I'm going to miss knifemaking. :(

That seals the deal- I'm buying some Gunkote.
Both of those look GREAT.

Those are sweet! Very nice lines. I'm with Mike, time to look at some Gunkote.

Flatgrinder, hope your move goes well and you are back to making knives faster than you thought.

That orange one is pretty sweet lookin to me. I like the looks of the gunkote:thumbup:

very nice indeed.... great work.....:D you're in the bay area too....

Great knives, Marcus! Your good and hoped to have more made. If you decide to sell any finished ones, please let me know. Hope to see you back soon!!

Those look great. Maybe another maker would be willing to finish up the edge and you could sell them?

Ooooooooo, me likie a whole lot!! Those are some schaweeeeeeeeeet knives!!!

Hey great job and those pics arent bad either. :D

Have you tried to see how tough the gunkote finish is? Curious to see how it would hold up to chopping and other heavey work. Let me know if you got any info. Cheers Art

Those are awesome! I have some of the OD Green GunKote but haven't tried it out yet...have to grind some tactical styles out. Good job!

Thanks for all the comments! I hope I can make some more soon.

Unfortunately these are keepers. I'm going to keep the one with the natural micarta handles and give the other one to my brother.

I haven't tested the gunkote yet, but the finish is really nice. It dries real even and looks professional, it's a good product. As for durability, I personally haven't tested it, but since it's made to coat firearms (I think it'll look great on a shotgun) it should be very durable.

P.S. Michael Burch has done some testing here if anyone's interested:

Hey there.....Theres a fella that goes by Bodogs57 that has had a great deal of trouble with black gunkoat. I posted a thread over at bladesmithing questions called blade finishes. Maybe you could offer him some advice. His kept peeling right off. Take care and have a great weekend. Cheers Art
