I have always wanted a plain edge Harpy. I was perusing the bay last night and this one came up for a reasonable price so I jumped on it. Its now on its way to me...should be here by this Wednesday (1/4/12) I would like to know what the Spyderco experts think. Priced so low...I have to ask...is it real? Yeah, I know...a little late now. If it is real can I use this, I bought it because I want a user. I don't want to use it if its going to cause some Spyderco collector out there to pull his/her hair out screaming in disgust. Any info/ideas/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Sure it real. The blade steel is G2. It is collectable but use it if you want. Why not pick up a salt hawkbill?

Good score! I have one just like it in my collection. I carry a Salt Tasman PE or SE though...easier to replace if lost/etc...

Yes, it's real, and quite collectible. While you can use it if you wish, the integral backstrap and lock spring used on the early Harpy has shown a tendency to break, Given they're 20~25 years old, it may be a case of the metal getting brittle with age, Or it may just be that, like many other things, the spring has a finite lifespan and is only good for so many open/close cycles. IMHO, if you want a PE SS Harpy user, you'd be better off hunting down one of the more recent Japanese market ones in VG-10.

That's what this was/is supposed to be. I sense the seller has no idea what this knife really is in regards to blade steel etc. He also stated it has the boye dent in it which I find hard to believe. I'll know more when its in my hand. I'll post more pics when it shows up. Here is his original description...

It won't have the boye dent as I stated above, the blade steel is G-2.

Ok so I received it today and it's everything you guys said it was...dunno why I doubted. I'm not as impressed as I thought I'd be, so I have decided to take someone's advice and unload it to look for a VG-10 model.

You might want to edit your post as you are very close to breaking forum rules. As for where to sell, it very hard to beat a gold membership. You get to sell plus other benefits.
