It's been a while since I've made any of my foolish movies but some people wanted to see the hasiya in action, I had some free time on my hands, and...well...you know. Then my camera decided that it didn't want to talk to my computer. After several days of troubleshooting I tried a new cable. That was the problem.
I didn't do any real torture testing. This was just chopping up some stuff. The Recyclable Hordes were again threatening Silverdale and I felt compelled to do my civic duty. Targets were a pool noodle, hanging beer can full of water, standing milk jug full of water, and a 2L soda bottle full of water.
Video format is Windows Media, as usual. I kept them small so that they'll download somewhat quickly.
Here we go:
Preliminary Blooper: as I prepared to start, a yellowjacket attacked me. I fended him off with a bit of Satori-ryu but he got his friends into the action and I was forced to make a strategic withdrawal. (Also known as running like hell.)
Pool Noodle: no problems here. Note my glance over the shoulder as I begin. The yellowjackets were still giving me grief.
Beer Can: I wasn't expecting any issues with this, and there were none. The edge didn't pick up any tiny aluminum bits like my swords normally do.
Milk Jug: this was a bit interesting. As you can see, the jug is almost as wide as the blade is long. I was actually surprised that I made it through as well as I did. I hadn't been expecting a clean cut. Fortunately the plastic is flimsy enough that a lot of tip speed isn't required.
Soda Bottle: another interesting target. Between my rickety stand (with a block of wood sitting on top of it) and the thicker plastic, I tend to have a hard time with these when I'm using a shorter blade. I've given some of my swords impromptu shock testing by making bad swings on these. I couldn't keep it on the stand but I made it through. That works for me.
I'm used to swinging khuks and swords and the hasiya has a very different feel to it. Despite its light weight there's very little feedback from the target - it just kind of zips through. Very fun. And, of course, it cuts grass pretty well too. Imagine that.
