Hi, Im recently considering purchasing a CRK one piece and I have several questions regarding the purchase of a knive of this category. Currently I have several mass produced knives, such as Gerber, Buck, and CRKT. The only problem I seem to find is that not one seems to have all the things I need in a knife, most of them seem to also loose the edge or the tips seem much to frail to rely on when it comes to chores such as opening a can of tuna,etc..What Im looking for is a knive to use camping, backpacking , fishing,etc...What benefits to you get with something like a CRK or another quality knive. Can anyone recomend a good all around knive that is strong yet keeps a nice edge. Thanks

The Finest Knife Hands down is the Chris Reeve Sebenza. I have Taken a Sebbie with me on trips all over, Africa, Bahama's, Central America.I use one especially when I am on the Boat. Lightweight, durable, practical and most of all rust resistant against the elements. Well worth every penny you pay for one and if you use it and abuse it, send it back to Chris for refurbishment. How many other Knives can make that claim?

ahppyhkr, do you play golf? In golf, you use specialized clubs for different shots--"woods" to move your ball long distances; "irons" to get your ball close to the flag; and a "putter" to finesse your ball into the cup.

As with golf, so it is with knives. You carry the best cutting/slicing/good looking tool you can afford as an EDC or primary knife. For all other mundane tasks (opening cans/bottles, reaming holes, loosening/tightening screws, etc.) you can carry a multi-tool as a secondary support tool. A multi-bladed Boy Scout or camp knife comes close to a do-all knife but you give up alot on the cutting/slicing/good looking dept.

Since you're getting a CRK one-piece (the Sable is nice but I presume you're getting a smaller knife), maybe you can fit a small multi-tool (e.g., a Leatherman Micra or small SAK) into the hollow handle. I don't know if the Micra will fit but if it does you might want to wrap it in cloth or bubble wrap to keep it from rattling around. You could also throw in one of those cheap GI can openers.
