Lately when doing searches on Google or Yahoo I have run into a problem. When I click on a link I am taken to another search engine. The second time I click on the link I am taken to a third search engine. The third time takes me to the proper page. I have run three different spyware software with no luck at getting rid of the problem. Any suggestions?

The problem is back again today. There is something really weird going on.

you should download and install a program called http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php#hijackthis . It will create a weird looking list of various registry entries. You do not want to delete them all, it could be very bad so, if you would like, you can save the list as a .txt file and I will ahve a look at it. Or, if you'd liketo do it yourself you can compare your entries to the hijackthis tutorial found here: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/htlogtutorial.php

its the list I've always used when running hijackthis and its never steered me wrong yet. If you don't recognize the file name and the tutorial says it is ok to delete entries under that section name then you are golden.

They also have a few other programs on that site that may be of help if it ends up that you have the coolweb searchengine and such as that.

Hope this helps!

I had the exact same problem last week. Very odd, and difficult to get rid of.

The trick was to boot the computer in Safe Mode and then run the spyware/virus removal programs. I don't recall exactly which program 'zapped' it, AdAware perhaps. And there was a series of registry keys that had to be reset.

Good Luck,

for anyone having questions about their system being clean, download and run this free program ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/cureit.exe once you start the program, it will automatically start to scan. on a slow computer it can take some time so be prepared if your system takes a long time to do anything. after the program finishes its initial scan, you will see 3 choices in the upper left screen where it says "scan" choose complete scan then click the arrow on the right to start this part of the scan. if it finds anything really bad it will pop up a box and stop the scan. you will have some choices as to yes to all, yes, no and no to all. choose yes and let it continue to run until done. if it finds questionable items it will put them in the box where it says "object". i suggest googling what appears in this list. if you find something that you arent sure about, take a screenshot and send me the pick. make sure you save it as a jpg and not a bitmap. i will let you know what to do once i find out what it is. another program to get is hijack this. there are plenty of good "free" programs at majorgeeks, just google them. i hope this information helps.
