Could someone please tell me the proper way and the proper address to return a knife to the SOG company? My Pentagon Elite II broke several weeks ago, and I would like to get it fixed.

I was opening and closing it in sucession several (12 or so) times and the arc-lock button came off and flew across the room. A buddy of mine says this is abuse of the knife and it is my own fault...to me, if I pay around a hundred bucks for a knife...I should be able to open and close it as many times as I want to, without it coming apart. Am I wrong on this??

This is my second Pentagon Elite that has mal-functioned on me...I had the PE non arc-lock a couple years ago and the lock failed on it...I sent it back and SOG sent me a new one.

I know SOG is a very good company...I also know they make a fine knife. However, in all honesty...I have only had two knives ever break or malfunction on me...the above Pentagon Elites. Is this a common problem, or am I just incredibly unlucky here? To be very honest...these experiences have really made me think twice about purchasing another SOG, and I hate to feel that way, because I do think they have a quality product.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...thank you.

Thanks so much...any opinions on whether I "abused or misused the knife"? I don't think I did at all...heck I rarely even cut anything with it. Flicking a knife open and closed a dozen times or so in a row to me is no big deal.

No, that most certainly is not abuse. I flick my knives open constantly. Depending on how fidgety I feel sometimes well over 100 times in a row I'm sure. Zero failures. Granted I don't own a Pentagon but still, it shouldn't break that quickly from just opening it. I'd just call it bad luck.

From what you've mentioned, I would not classify this as "abuse". Usually the only actions that fall under this category are things like prying with the knife tip, or damage due to improper maintenance.

Never hurts to check on whether a problem is covered under warranty... and being extra nice to our warranty representative never hurts either. :)

I am planning on sending the knife in with a letter...it is pretty easy to see what is wrong with it, and the faulty part is in the baggy with it as well. No abuse on my part...just flicking it open and closed repeatedly for 5 minutes or so every once in a while. I appreciate the help. I am still rather perplexed as to why this has occurred with 2 different Pentagon Elite models. I have many knives...alot of them are of CRKT quality or so...and none have ever misfunctioned in any way. Just kind of baffling to me. SOG has some new models that really appeal to me...I am not ready to give up on them yet.

The PEII is on its way to Washington...I will keep you all informed of the process. Last time I dealt with SOG with a problem knife...they were really good to deal with.

Bummers about the knife. I flick open my PE-II quite a bit and have not had a problem with it. Got mine in 2004 and it's been flicked open and flicked closed hundreds apon hundreds of times with no ill effect. SOG will take care of you. :)

Sorry you had a problem with your knife. I am sure the warranty department will take car of the problem. It sounds like the knife got assembled with out any locktite on it. If you run into anything else please let us know.

Still waiting...they did receive the knife on the 9th. I called them a week ago or so...kind of a confusing call, the lady I talked to said it was done and they were sending the knife back...but the computers were down so she couldn't tell me what was done to it. Two days later, I got an email saying the techs had it and it was going to be refurbished. Not sure what the story is...but they did receive the knife anyhow. Oh well...will wait and see.

My PEII came home to me today...took a bit of time, but looks to be as good as new now. The little tag that was attached to it said the following was done:

"New Female Arc Stud
Clean and Sharpen
Bead Blast Blade"

Hopefully I won't have any more problems with the knife...glad to have it back!
