Hey guys, it's time to pick your brains a little bit. I have been EDCing a Schrade Bearhead 3OT lockback, and I like it more then I thought. It is Peanut sized pretty much, and one heck of a little worker. The single blade reminds me of a Soddie. Wide profile, real thin, and takes a super sharp, hair poppin edge. And for an SS blade, it keeps the edge real well. My question for you guys is, does anyone know ANYTHING about this knife? I've looked online for it, and all I get is that it's an import. However, it says right there on the blade that it is made in the USA. I'm guessing it's because this one was from before Schrade went out of business. My wife carried it from 2000 to 2004, and I don't know how long her father carried it before he died. At the very least, this knife is about 8 years old. As I said before, the SS Steel takes a mean edge and keeps it. What kind of SS is it? Does it have any significannt history, this pattern?
Anyone? Anything?

To the best of my knowledge, Schrade used 440A for the Uncle Henry and other stainless knives they made. I think as far as edge holding it should be about as good as Case true sharp or the Victorinox mystery steel. Not bad stuff at all.

Even though your knife was part of the Old Timer line, for some unexplained reason there was the Schrade Plus stainless used in some of the Old Timers. Why, I don't know.

It's a very good little knife, enjoy it.

The 3OT was first produced in 1986, and came in the brown wood grain box, but it was chosen to have the stainless steel. The 98OT and 93OT were a couple more that have that same steel. It's a nice sized knife too. It was made up to 2004.

Nothing much to add to the above,as I just started to accumulate Old timers.

Just that it is a great little knife,I just got mine in the mail on Saturday.I can see it being a favorite in my carry rotation.

It performs great, feels great in the hand, and looks sturdy. Any idea WHY these knives were chosen to have SS Steel as opposed to the rest of the Old Timer line?

As thawk pointed out it isn't the only Old Timer in stainless. I have an 24otx that was also only made in Schrade+.As to why,I don't know.
