Tom,
That is some fine work. I especially like the crosshatching shadows and the very lively look to the whole design. Nice touch with the accents on the pins too.

I was gifted with a Kentuck Longrifle kit this last Christmas from my girls, and since learning and getting so many Ideas from the fine folks around here, it ain't easy to just put her together no more. Thought I'd put it together for the Spring rendezvous, but now I have designs I want to carve on the stock, a barrel to brown, Tru-oil to start after the carving, and most likely a bit of amature graving on the brass and the lock and patchbox.
; )

Thanks for posting the nice pics,
mark

Beautiful work Tom. Looks like a piece to hand down the younguns.

Thanks guys.

This one is headed out to Oregon to a knife dealer who will put it up on ebay. Since I am still relatrively unknown in the engraving world, a good deal may be available.

Anyhow, Thanks for the quick and kind replies. no matter the subject, I usually get the fastest and most thoughtful response right here in the old cantina!

take care,

Tom

Stunning. You sir, are an artist. Thanks for sharing with us:)

How long?

well...

probably 3 or 4 hours for the design. I timed the 4th bolster, which gives me an idea. To cut the last bolster was 2 1/2 hours. 1/2 hour to tape up the blades, 1/2 hour to ink and clean up. More than half of the cutting time was the background relief and stippling.

In other words, I coud cut the same design again in around 11 or 12 hours. Add an hour or two to create a new design for the same knife.

Take care, and thanks for the input.

Tom
