Tonight we celebrate what is basically the end of the grueling Christmas shipping season. I took a break this evening to play with my knives as my wife naps in front of the TV. I made this image, liked it, and thought I'd leave it behind for your viewing pleasure. Take care.

Pleased to hear you can relax and rest a bit now....I hope the season was profitable for you. I recognize the Northwoods Scagle.....I notice how well everything is pinned on the handle. It appears pretty much "bomb proof".
The folder on the left looks to have that classic Schatt and Morgan Crimson Red Worm Groove pattern......but its like no S&W I am familiar with !
Both are extaordinarily beautiful works of art !

Thanks, Gramps. The Christmas season was typical or normal this year. I said the same thing last year. This year we were down in November from last year but up in December. I think overall, the season will prove to be an improvement over last year but not a big one. Normal says it properly, I think. We don't add any staff in December we just work more hours and a few weeks of it is pretty tiring for us old timers.

The Scagels are on the heavy side and they certainly are bombproof. I was invited to an upland game hunt next month and I got the scagel as a carry knife for that trip. You should always get a new knife for every trip, right?

The red jigged bone knife is a Spyderco, oddly enough, that was rehandled and fileworked for me by a custom maker several years ago. The scale on the other side is chipped from a drop on concrete, so it has become a user that I actually carry fairly often. I had it in my pocket when I made the image. Glad you liked the knives.

I'm usually not much for reworked factory knives, but that Spyderco with bone handles is awesome:thumbup:

Thanks for the pic; nice! I have each model of "new" Scagel, and EDC the one in the pic. I like the heft and sturdiness of it. Northwoods and Queen did a nice job, and a limited production means they are not likely to end up as more "collectible" junk!

Hi Knife Outlet,

I was just wondering if there were only a limited number of those 1 bladed Scagel folders made. If so, do you happen to know how many were produced? Thanks

hi silvercall,
production figures for the scagels are at:
www.thecustomshoppellc.com
unfortunately the figure for the 1-blade is missing, but I've got a message in to Dave Shirley, and will post it as soon as I find out.

RE: SCAGEL REPROS 2005
This info from John Cable; These are a correction on the web site figures, which are a little off.
Scagel #1 -approx.144 sm. 2bl (a couple returned to queen)
Scagel #2 -137 bird&trout
Scagel #3 -142 big 1bl
Scagel #4 -200 stag -50 ivory heavy bolster 2bl
If more info comes to light, I will add it later, but these are darn close!

Thanks for the info Waynorth!!! This thread actually made me order one (great pic K.O.:D ) and I was wondering if I should use it or keep it. Given the info, I'm alittle hesitant to use it, but I guess we'll see when it arrives.

I think a really rare and valuable custom knife could perhaps be kept pristine. I see no reason not to use this one. I'm taking the one in the picture on a hunting trip next month. I think these knives are expensive for what they are but that's because the tooling and setup costs were amortized over a small number of units. They aren't so rare and expensive that they wouldn't be good candidates for users. Personally, I don't buy knives with the intention of not using them. Just an opinion.
