Some knives I made

My work is no where near as good as most of the knifemakers on this site, but it is slowly getting better. The blades I make are finally starting to look and act like knives should, though. Thank God the learning process is fun (and painful!).

This is a bowie-shaped camp knife (or something) made out of 3/16" O1. I took the bevel all the way to the back, so it has a really thin edge. I don't think it'll be much of a chopper, but it sure slices well!

This one is a tanto-short sword thingy my roommate wanted. Also made from 3/16" 01. Half off my rent for that baby! The blade bent a little forward in the quench, but it still looks good. (at least it didn't warp to the side!)

These are my uber-tacticool pairing knives. Perfect for deanimating tomatoes. Made from 1/8" 440C stainless. I'm giving these to my girlfriend and her mom for their respective birthdays.

I think that my knives are finally becoming decent tools! Thanks for giving me the opportunity to show them off a bit.:)

Nix,

Dude, I love your descriptions, Bowie shaped (something), sword thingy...that's funny. Man just keep at it. Be sure to keep some of your early efforts. All of us have things hidden somewhere that we take out from time to time to remind us how far we've come, but also they remind us of how you feel right now about building knives. Your knives are coming along and you WILL develop a clear style. I can see it in the tactical pairing knives especially, but also in the Bowie shaped (or something). I love that.

I will say, if you would accept a bit of advice from me, it looks like most of the knives you are making are massive. With knives that big there are so many little details to keep up with that I find my self missing the details that really finish the thing off. I've found it easier to scale up a smaller design and get it perfect than to start with a big 'un.

Keep burnin' those fingers! You're gettin' it.

Thanks for the comments and advice! My next few efforts will be much smaller. School is starting soon, though, and I don't know how often I'll be able to get out to the shop. Darn priorities. Sometimes when I have a knife sitting around waiting to be finished, I have a hard time thinking of anything else!:)
