Hey all,
Been accumulating Spydercos the last few years but only recently discovered the community built up around them, and just started lurking around the forum.
Anyway, I just got a blue nishijin Cricket last week (pictures coming eventually) and it's exceeded my expectations in every way. I originally bought it mainly to admire the blue nishijin scale, and it's even more stunning than I had hoped (I own a Lum Chinese folder in black nishijin and it's drap by comparison). Not only that, but the blade is actually amazingly functional as well. Most of my knife use is to open packages or break down boxes, which is pretty easy even for my Dragonfly 2. But the reverse-S blade on the Cricket really grabs the material so that you can just pull it across and it cuts the whole way.
I acquired a Dodo last week as well, and as great as it is, the Cricket outslices it in every way. The stock and grind are both much thinner, which makes slicing much easier (and who needs something thicker to open mail?), and the blades are even about the same length. However, the Cricket also manages to pack in a little bit of belly that the Dodo lacks, so you can cut more or less normally as well. The only thing the Dodo really has on it is ergonomics, and even then I can get a 3.5 finger grip on the Cricket with my medium/small hands thanks to the 50/50 choil.
Fit and finish are great as expected, and because it's so small it just disappears into your pocket. Basically my only complaint is that it's a tad thinner than I was expecting, but I guess that's the tradeoff for making it so portable.
Anyway, I love it so far, and I'm surprised I haven't seen it more talked about. Hopefully that will change.
