When I tell people I am trying to start making knives, they almost tease me about trying to get rich... I am not doing it for the money, I doubt I could make any anyways. does any one here just do it for the money?? also does anyone use a plasma cutte rto cut the blades out?? I used one on some 1095 this weekend and it turned out ok to me... or did I mess something up??

Yes and no on the making for money. I keep a few of my knives just for display purposes and my own personal use. Since I don't want a regular J.O.B. ( A cuss word in my camp) I sell the rest.

The plasma cutter is a good profile tool. I used mine to cut a lot of steel but prefer to forge these days. You will probably hear a lot of pros and cons on this one.

Will you get rich? I sure hope so! Just follow your dream.

Getting rich knifemaking is kinda like making it from hischool football to a pro. There are a couple knifemakers like Bill Moran and Fisk that get top dollar but they've worked long and hard and are but a small % of the knifemaking comunity. If I won a million dollars I'd make knives till it was all gone though:D

Me for stock removal I'd prefere a bandsaw, a plasma cutter is a nice tool and I'd Love to have one. Only thing negative is that on any steel that air hardens(all stainless blade steels and quite a few carbon knife steels) it'll leave a thin skin of hardened steel at the cut that will kill files and bandsaw blades. No problem to grind off and a lot less to grind off than a torch cut.
