Good evening friends, if you’d be so kind as to lend your experience, I have these woods in my shop but I don’t know what they are. Thank you for any assistance you can provide!

I’m heading to bed, but I’ll take a closer look tomorrow.

With a cursory look…. I think number one looks like a claro walnut, or a similar species to me.

Number two also looks like a walnut species to me, but maybe black walnut, rather than claro.

Three looks like white oak, or something similar.

Not sure about four. The pores look similar to a rosewood, but I think it looks more like black locust. 🤷

Not sure about five either. It looks like it could be a number of different woods to me.

1 and 2 look like walnut
3 looks like beech
4 looks like some sort of mahagony or sapelle
5 i thougth it was purpleheart, but from the cross cut it looks denser, some type of rosewood

Good guesses. I think 4 is Oak.

I would also say that the open pores would confirm 1,2 and 4 as above. 5 is potentially cocobolo, you would know if you make a fresh cut and it is purple, white and/or orangish inside.

I would trust the others opinions of #3 as beech more that my opinion, but I have a lot of curly ash that looks exactly like that except of course mine is extremely curly.

Let's say number 5 is not bloodwood, just for the sake of discussion. What else could it be? The only reason I ask is I have some blood wood that just came in and number 5 looks quite different from it.

Chakte Kok or sometimes called red heart can come in either a redish brown or a brown.if that is it in the 2nd image from the top it looks a bit like iron wood but from the side looks like bloodwood
however I am preaty sure it is bloodwood.
bloodwood likes to brown over time

I'll post pics of it next to the blood wood that came in tomorrow.

Fixall Fixall thank you for the reminder.

The four on the bottom are the same piece I posted earlier, cut into scale blanks. Very different from the bloodwood I just got in.

The blood wood up top is likely the sapwood and the lower wood needing Identifying is likely bloodwood the heartwood of the tree known for a blood red color.

Can you provide any info on density and where you got it from? It looks like Tasmanian Myrtle to me, but i don't know how common that is outside of Australia
