I have been lurking for a while but I figured I would finally add to BF.

I collect knifes I find interesting due to their steel, lock, design, or materials. Here are some brief thoughts about some of my current collection. Hopefully this will help folks find the right knife for them. If you find that you have similar tastes in knives and have recommendations for me please let me know.

These are just my thoughts. Ratings are out of 5.

Top: Opportunist, 940, Stretch II, Caly3
Bottom: Apparition, Monochrome, Volpe (Volpe is a good knife I just had higher expectations)

Mfg: Benchmade
Name: Opportunist 440
Overall: 5
Carry: 5 – Chrome clip
Use: EDC
Description: Great looks, materials, fit, lockup. Love the modified Wharncliff blade. The chrome clip fits the look but I prefer something more inconspicuous for EDC.

Mfg: Benchmade
Name: Griptilian 550SBKHG
Overall: 4
Carry: 3 – Too big
Use: Work
Description: My hiking knife, but it losses out to the very similar Rift in camping situations where weight does not mater.

Mfg: Benchmade
Name: Mini-Griptilian 557
Overall: 4
Carry: 4
Use: EDC
Description: Good little EDC but the verdict is out on the tanto blade. I do like the large straight cutting surface ala Wharncliff.

Mfg: Benchmade
Name: Apparition 670
Overall: 2 – Fit & Finish
Carry: 2 – Too bulky
Use: None
Description: The design and fit and finish of this knife does not compare to the rest of my Benchmades.

Mfg: Benchmade
Name: 710D2
Overall: 4
Carry: 3
Use: Work
Description: Great knife, but to big for EDC. This is the knife I grab if I will be doing work that I know will require a knife. It's a little much to carry “just in case”.

Mfg: Benchmade
Name: Mini-Dejavoo 745
Overall: 5
Carry: 4 – Chrome clip
Use: EDC
Description: Beautiful knife, the materials, fit, lockup are all top notch. I am a big fan of the leaf shape flat ground blade. I wish the clip was not chrome, I prefer some thing that attracts less attention. RIP Mr Lum.

Mfg: Benchmade
Name: 940
Overall: 5
Carry: 5
Use: EDC
Description: Great knife, solid all around. For its relatively small size it packs a great blade. This knife defines benchmade to me.

Mfg: Benchmade
Name: Rift 950SBK
Overall: 4
Carry: 3 – Too big
Use: Work
Description: Very “cool” knife, great scales and details. Extremely similar in geometry to the full size Grip. My camping knife when I don't mind the extra heft over the Grip.

Mfg: Benchmade
Name: Monochrome 10300
Overall: 3 – Poor action
Carry: 4
Use: EDC
Description: Sharp looking but definitely not in the blue class. I find the blade action very poor. One handed opening is difficult to execute without snapping the blade open. The lockup is also suspect.

Mfg: Benchmade
Name: Benchmite II 10610
Overall: 4
Carry: 3 – Small no clip
Use: 2nd
Description: Great little knife I leave on my desk for random tasks.

Mfg: Benchmade
Name: Vex 10750
Overall: 3
Carry: 4 – bulky
Use: EDC / Work
Description: Great for the price. If your looking for a beater this is it.

Mfg: Boker
Name: Wharcom BO588
Overall: 4
Carry: 4 – Small
Use: 2nd
Description: High quality in a small package with a lot of usable edge.

Mfg: Case
Name: Half Whittler Stag
Overall: 4
Carry: 4 – No clip
Use: EDC
Description: Small but great for what its name implies... whittling.

Mfg: Kershaw
Name: Chive 1600
Overall: 4
Carry: 4
Use: 2nd / EDC
Description: Useful little knife. Speedsafe's novelty has warn off though.

Mfg: Kershaw
Name: Centofante 1610
Overall: 4
Carry: 4
Use: 2nd / EDC
Description: Sharp looking little knife. As usual I like the Wharncliff blade. Speedsafe's novelty has warn off though.

Mfg: Kershaw
Name: Leek 1660
Overall: 4
Carry: 4
Use: EDC
Description: Classic EDC, I like the blade profile. Speedsafe's novelty has warn off though.

Mfg: Kershaw
Name: Groove 1730
Overall: 5
Carry: 4
Use: EDC / Work
Description: Sharp looks, great fit and ergonomics. A little aggressive looking for EDC. I carry it when doing work in the around the house.

Mfg: Spyderco
Name: Delica G-10 FG C11G
Overall: 5
Carry: 5
Use: EDC
Description: Great EDC, built like a Caly 3 but in the Delica profile. (Current on route to spyderco for a fit and finish issue, I will update when I have more info)

Mfg: Spyderco
Name: Delica ZDP-189 PE C11GRE
Overall: 4
Carry: 5
Use: EDC
Description: Classic EDC, great steel.

Mfg: Spyderco
Name: Cricket SS C29
Overall: 5
Carry: 5
Use: 2nd
Description: Great little knife. Unique and useful design. If I carry two knives this is the second.

Mfg: Spyderco
Name: Para Military FG C81FG
Overall: 5
Carry: 4
Use: Work
Description: Great knife, lock, and steel. Competes with the Groove and 710 as my work horse.

Mfg: Spyderco
Name: DAllara Drop Point PE C82BK2
Overall: 5
Carry: 3 – Too big
Use: Work
Description: To big for me to EDC but great ergonomics and lock. Competes with the Grip and Rift and wins out if I prefer a plain edge that day.

Mfg: Spyderco
Name: Stretch II C90CF
Overall: 5
Carry: 5
Use: EDC / Work
Description: Fantastic knife all around. A little big for urban EDC. This knife can take over my pocket on any day and any activity.

Mfg: Spyderco
Name: Volpe C99
Overall: 4
Carry: 4 – Chrome clip
Use: EDC
Description: Beautiful knife and materials but I am a little disappointed with some of the design and the blade action.

Mfg: Spyderco
Name: Persian 75mm C105
Overall: 4
Carry: 5
Use: EDC
Description: Great classy knife. One of my top EDCs. The only thing I would change would be a bigger spyder hole.

Mfg: Spyderco
Name: Caly3 G-10 PE C113G
Overall: 5
Carry: 5+
Use: EDC
Description: My EDC. The Caly was my first spyderco and none since have been able to knock it out of full time EDC. If you looking for one knife to be your EDC this is it.

Welcome to BF! Nice first post. I agree with the Caly 3 as small EDC. My Spyderco pocket time gets split between my Caly 3 and my Sage (then there's the SnG and the Sebbie all beggin' for pocket time as well).

I've found that for a day or longer hiking/camping, the combination of Caly 3 and Para-Millie does everything I need to do with a knife. And just last weekend, my best mate and I used a Military to help remove some windows, cut out the lower part of the wall, and install a set of French doors onto his patio.

Gotta love them Spydies... they just don't quit.

Thanks guys. I have been thinking about the sage but I ended up ordering a orange UKPK. If I start with the liner lock sage I will likely end up with all the different lock iterations... bad for the wallet... respect to Sal and crew, it is a cool concept.

Welcome to Blade Forums.
Nice start to a life long addiction.
