Here are some highlights of the new products shown at the Blade Show 2002. I have pics and more info of some of these new items which I will post later. For now, chew on this :)

Spyderco:

· Rescue model to be discontinued and to be replaced with an advanced model that has an ergonomic handle, blunt nosed blade, and integrated, retractable carbide glass breaker that is activated by squeezing the closed blade in the handle.

· Trakk’r – new name for the redesigned Tim Wegner Compression Lock folding hunter

· Concept knives – lots of them. Some with the new Ball Lock which comprises of a spring mounted steel ball that rides on the tang. Similar in principle to the Axis Lock.

Kershaw:

· Colored Scallions – anodized aluminum scales available in red, blue, and green

· Onion Leek – new folder with SS handle, 420 blade, and Speed Safe. One variation of the Leek has rainbow boron carbide coating.

· New kitchen knives with Damascus blades and wood handles. Offset handle shape to fit right handed users.

Benchmade:

· Warren Osborne Double Vision – two bladed folder. Main blade is S30V and operates off of the Axis Lock. Secondary small blade is mounted at the end of the handle and operates on a slip joint. Blade shapes are wharncliffes. The secondary blade appears to be a part of the knife frame when closed.

· Warren Osborne Innova – Dressy upscale SS frame Axis Lock folder with styled inlays.

· 941 carbon fiber – the 941 will be available in carbon fiber and either satin finish and boron carbide coated blades.

Pics of the new Spydies? Danelle posted that they weren't allowed. Maybe you were able to get some, especially the Yojimbo? If not, my money will be spent on BM and Al Mar anyway.

Thanks Dex. Any place you know of where we can see pictures of these knives. I have seen the OVB bowie with ironwood handle and it is fantastic looking.

Hardheart - no pics of the Spydies are available.

Keith - I have some pics of the Gerber and CRKT new stuff. In the august issue of Blade, there are pics of the Double Vision and some other new stuff. I'll get some pics up later today.

Do you know what steel CRK&T plans on using for the titanium handled M-16's? I would hope an upgrade in handle material means an upgrade in blade steel.

Dennis - I think the steel stayed the same - AUS-8. I'll check later on when I get the pics up.

Dexter,

How big was that Osborne SS/MOP Innova? Are we talking about < 3" blade, like a tiny gent's knife, or larger, like a 3.25" - 3.5" one?

Did Benchmade have an ETA on this puppy?

I'm -trying- to move away from the tactical/sport utility knife look, and I figure AXIS is always a nice touch ;)

thanks!

Jon - I would say the Innova's blade is right around the 3.25" to 3.50" range as you say. It does have a bit of heft to it because of the SS frame. Gosh, Benchmade told me when to expect this knife on the market, but I can't remember it for the life of me. Saw so much new stuff last weekend it all runs together ;) :D

I believe they will hit the market in Sept. At least that's what I remember them saying. I could be wrong.

Thanks, Ken.

I look forward to seeing them.

Benchmade did a nice job with the Elishewitz 690... let's see how they do with this.

:)

Dex, tell me it's going to follow Wegner "Ocelot" pattern...

Piter, you are correct. Except they are planning the Trakk'r with Zytel scales and IIRC, an ATS-34 blade. The prototype they had at the show had a slight palm swell in the center, which was a nice touch IMO. The Compression Lock is still there. Having ATS and molded Zytel scales will bring the price down some.

Thanks for the news, Dex. Any word on the Wilson/Ralph frame-locks? I see that the auto is being sold, what's the scoop?

James - thanks for asking. I should have posted an addendum to my thread that I started about these knives a few months ago. Ryan had some prototypes of the folder on his table and they are SWEET! Darrel still says they will be ready to roll sometime this summer....probably late summer. They will be worth the wait :)
