Some New Knives...

Well, I recall reading about the Northwoods Indian River knife & how nice it looked. I've had mine for a week or so now & thought I'd post some pics & my opinions.

It's said to be made by GEC & that is surprising in that it's slim. It just doesn't have that GEC overbuiltness, but F&F is excellent. It doesn't look like a GEC, but it's very well built.

3 5/8" with a flat grind 2.5" Spear-point blade in 1095. Handles are in ebony wood. It carries very well in the pocket, as expected, & the handle size is an ideal combination of comfort & pocketability.

In short, I like it.

The other knives that came in recently are a '79 Case mini-Trapper with Clip & Pen blade, a GEC Northfield Congress with burnt stag handles, & a Canal Street Hawbaker.

The Hawbaker is their modified version of a Muskrat. Handles are stag & blade steel is Latrobe's 14-4CrMO, which, from what I understand, is their version of ATS-34/154CM. It's 4" & the Clip & Sheepsfoot blades are each just under 3".

I certainly can not complain about them. F&F is excellent on all 3.

Very nice knives all around. You can hardly do better than the GEC Northfield Congress. The handles look very nice. Good choices.

Nice family of sharps Rob. The Northfield gent has a nice classy, easy on the eyes look to it. Congrats on the new ones.

Been eyein' that Northwoods for a while. Thanks for the review.

I've been looking at that Northwoods for a spell, myself. That will be my next purchase, maybe next month or so.

That Northwoods really surprised me. It's thin & light & I like Spear-point blades. The Scagel type blade notch is a nice touch. You can use either the notch or pinch open the blade easily.

It's simple & elegant, to say the least.

Nice group of knives. I like Scagel patterns. And the Hawbaker version of the muskrat pattern makes a big improvement for EDC imho.:cool:

That Case Trapper looks nice... and familiar!

Here I am now back into traditional pocket knives and I'm already minus 1 :D

I picked one of the Northwoods Indian River knives myself. Open/close was stiff out of the box, but after some oil and some work, it's developed a nice walk and talk. It's nice and light weight and the spear point blade is a winner. Nice knives CL01.
