I can't blame Porkerson for this, it's all Chuddybear and Leatherhogs fault this time. After seeing Chudybear's tutorial on making a sheath and Dwayne's on the Swamprat forum I figured,"It can't be too hard right?" Yeah right!

Teaching yourself to do this ain't as easy as it looks. At least not for me. I have made three sheaths now. Each one has been a learning experience. I just hope it doesn't take too many crappy sheaths before I can make nice ones consistently. Each one has gotten a little better than the the last one so I can't complain too much. And I have been having fun with it.
On to the pics. Standard disclaimer about crappy pics applies.

Here are a couple of pics of the first sheath I made. I figure it's ugly but it has worked so far and I don't think it will fall apart any time soon. It held up to a week in the field crawling all over my Bradley Fighting Vehicle and getting caught up on any and everything.
Front view. Not too bad snap got screwed up but over all OK.

Back view. :barf: Definitely need some work on those stitches.

Now for the second one. My first try at wet molding leather. This leather I have is a little too thick to get a nice look from the molding. But the fit came out so well that when I pull the Gerber tool out by one handle, it pulls the plier jaws out.

Front. Not bad stitches came out OK. Some marks from over handling it when it was wet, but overall the same effect as the first one ugly but functional. And once again should hold up and not come apart.

Back side. Better job on the stitches. I am happier with this one.

Now for the big one. This is last one I have finished. This one is for my CGNO.

Front side. Getting better

Back side. Improving on the stitching on the back side.

Overall I am having fun and making progress on each sheath. Although I don't think I will quit my day job. I think I will try a pouch style next.

Nick

Sweet!!! Just stick with it. Each one you make will get easier and come out better looking. I think that the best way to learn is to just try it and make mistakes, as long as you learn from the mistakes you will continue to improve, your stitching gets better each time.

If you want any hints or have any questions feel free to shoot me an e-mail. I will do my best to help out.

Chuck.

Dude, they look WAY better than my first three --- i think they look great. The NO-e sheath is VERY nice

Wow, you are getting better that Ergo (NOe?) turned out real nice. Wish I had the time and patience to give this a try. Hmmmm, maybe someday! ;)

All look useful/functional and the last one looks very nice. Good job!

Good job! The stitches on my first sheath need twice as much work as those on your first--and by your 3rd looks like you have it down solid!
