My purchases have taken a complete turn toward older or vintage knives as of late. Here are some that have shown up at my door over the past few weeks:

Clockwise from top are a Camillus easy open jack with bail and bone, Pal cutlery easy open jack with imitation bone (auction advertised it as bone, but what are you going to do), Camillus bone handled, spear point barlow, Kabar delrin barlow, and a Kabar with stag handles.

I've really begun liking the easy open teardrop jack pattern, and love these two. I know nothing about Pal cutlery--any info on this one? Here's a close up of the tang:

The other pattern I've always loved is the Barlow (probably because I have early memories of my grandfather carrying a brown handled one). Here are my two new ones:

I buy all of my knives with the intent to carry and use them, but I don't know if I'll be able to carry the Kabar--it showed up in the original box, with the insert, and the actual sales receipt from 1978!

The last one has me clueless. I don't know a thing about these Kabars, let alone the series. This is the only one of these I've ever seen. Almost a cross between an exaggerated teardrop, with the pointed rear bolster, and a barlow, with the long front bolster. Any info on this one would be appreciated also--this may also end up being a safe queen!

I've got to slow down! I have a Camillus pony (peanut) on the way with bone scales, thanks to Dale gifting me a yellow delrin model. I'll have to write up a comparison of early, mid and late model Ponies once it arrives.

Wow...Eric, nice knives, Im pretty sure thats bone on your Pal there my friend, I just love those easy opener Jacks....lovely.

Edit..... hey..that Barlow with the spear point blade-NICE!!...I have just had a second take on that...that is such a cool knife!...well done-great score.

Duncan, that spear point Camillus has actually become my favorite. I posted pics of it looking for info on another knife forum, and it seems that it was probably made in the late 40's or early 50's, based on the catalogs of the time. I mostly carry it at home, since I think I got pretty lucky finding it, and have not since seen one come up for sale with either the spear point or the bone scales. If you ever see one for sale, grab it quick!

Everyone of those are great! Those old EO's are close to my heart.

Your Pal knife is genuine bone. 100% certain. The only imitation bone used by Pal was a jigged black composition.

Thanks. I guess its just really pocket worn. Great snap to it. I wish the blades were 100%. Such a great knife. Funny thing too, is the pull doesn't week to be parallel with the spine.

The Pal Cutlery Co was in the pocketknife business from 1940-1953 -- they bought Remington's cutlery equipment and dies (and a lot of spare blades and bone and other bits) in 1940 and by 1953 the equipment had worn out. Rather than retool, they scraped it and concentrated on their razor blade business. The company itself started in 1931 and they're still around as American Safety Razor.

It's not unusual to see knives that are obviously Remington patterns with both Remington and Pal stamped blades in them - Pal used up the Remington stock and kept making a number of Remington patterns.
