I have read a lot of peoples thoughts on Rough Rider knives and it pushed me to check out some Rough Rider knives. Well 3 of them came today. A peanut in stag, a minny trapper in orange bone, and a trapper in natural bone.

I can review all them at once because they are all excellent knives. And considering I paid around $9.00 a piece, almost unbelievable. Fit and finish is great on all them. No gaps or anything. Only thin I noticed is the main blade on the mini trapper is a little stiff. But I am sure a drop or two of oil will fix that right up. I am very impressed and I know I will get more in the future. Oh yeah, each one shaved hair off my arm right out of the box. :D

Here are some pictures. Let me know what you think.

What do I think? Some damn good photos for a start! The stag on the peanut looks decent, the RR Peanut I have is bone and both the scales and blades are a bit skimpy compared to CASE.Well put together knife though.

I very much like the look of that Natural Bone,I wonder if other patterns come in it?

Oranges are for eating and I shy away from it on knife handles..no offence though, the knife looks good. You should try some of their Old Yellow range, the Doctor,Gunstock and Sodbuster are all very nice knives indeed if you like yellow. I particularly like the fact that on the Gunstock the nail nicks are on the same side and the bolsters are quite short which prevents the knife from looking too bulky, all too easy on that pattern.

It is good that quality is there for RR at that price. However, the "Tested" on the blade to me appears to be a copy of what Case has done for a long time. It keeps me away from them. When my kids get a little older, it may be thier break in knife. If they can keep from getting in trouble or losing it, then I can get them something more substantial.

Nicely photographed. I like that the lighting isn't too strong and that the images are clear. That red bone mini-trapper looks really good.

I just got a full size Trapper today, not sure what the handle is, though. This is my 1st one & I was surprised.

Nice looking knives, I particularly like the stag peanut. I have several RR knives, and they just seem to be getting better. My EDC right now is a yellow handled Copperhead pattern. Now I've got to look for one in stag!

Yup, nice job on the pics.
As for RR knives.....whatever floats your boat.

+1 My thoughts exactly.

Also, not to be too critical here of the title of the thread, but I might add that a typical knife "REVEIW" is a process one embarks on over time. That is, its a process that typically runs into many weeks if not several months entailing diverse kinds of typical uses and/or hard usage. After the knives are put through the riggers of what folks who own and use knives would typically put them through. Of coarse folks can take before and after photographs showing and depicting the changes the knife/tool undergoes during the process along with the successes and failures and then reports the findings at the conclusion.

Not to be too critical, but since when is this the norm? There are plenty of examples on these forums, particularly the Knife Reviews & Testing forum, that are not based on long term performance. Some folks review out-of-the-box, some review to destruction, and everywhere in between. To my knowledge, there are no rules written or otherwise, that specify the way knife reviews are to be conducted.

If the antics continue, I will be glad to illustrate how serious I am about the posts in this particular forum be based on respect.

There is nothing wrong about a review out of the box. Shecky, if you can not post in this forum without respect and mocking. I suggest you stay out.

Discuss the knives, because you can bet your bottom buck that neither Blues not I will allow this forum's atmosphere to deteriorate one bit.

Take the debate offline fellas, it's getting old.

EDITED TO ADD:

Gus, must've been posting at the same time. Glad we see things alike.

I think those are some sweet looking little knives (great pictures) and appreciate your time to write down your thoughts about them. One more thing though, could someone email or pm me where you are getting the Rough Rider knives?

Thanks,
Mike

Gentlemen Moderators,

Please understand I have not ever been the instigator where shecky inevetibly shows up to post. But, have only given my respectful opinion in threads where I feel I was able to contributed my educated opinion and careful not to insult ANYONE.

Then in comes shecky and has repeatedly been following me(and other real contributing members) around the forums trying to instigate me(and other folks) to respond to him. I have not and will not respond to the likes of him, ever.

Respectfully,

Anthony

Let's get back to the discussion of knives. If anyone has any issues unrelated to the subject of this thread that they feel the need to air or discuss further...take it to email or PM.

Like everybody else said, nice photo work! It's tough to get close ups like that on the reflective surfaces well done.

Nice looking knives to. Honestly I can't stand the orange handles, but then I don't like the yellow Cases either (GASP!). But that natural bone looks real nice and the stag is pretty decent. I notice the stag is pretty unmatched, but it's hard to tell from the lighting if the color is as far off as it looks or just the texture. Still looks pretty good anyway, variation is part of the charm of stag after all.

And I sort of agree with sunny on taking some time with the knives. Nothing in the world wrong with showing them off and giving your first impressions, but I'd really like to hear what you think a while down the line.

Congrats on some nice lookin' cutters.

I got one of the Rough Rider orange bone stockmen a little while ago. It's not bad at all. Fit and finish were decent, although overall it wasn't quite as sturdy as my Schrade or Buck. Just seems to me like the blades and scales are a little thinner, and it feels a little lighter as well.

Hi,

Nice photos! I've got a dark green bone scaled mini-trapper. It gets to see it's share of pocket time.

DutchV, I agree the blades are thinner than most other brands. But I like the thin blades. I feel they make a bit better slicers that way. But, that's just my personal taste.

I've not really perused RR's lately. Been kind of looking for some other stuff. But I think there maybe a new pattern or two I need to test out for myself in my future.
