As a new member of the forum and a budding collector I have made the following observations on my knifes.
My Benchmade 710 M-2 steel. Scary sharp right out of the box. I have the scar to prove it!
It is about the smoothest knife I have ever owned. It is a little longer than I want for everyday carry but hey in Texas it's still cool! Ease of use on the Axis lock is great.
My benchmade 2550 auto is not as as sharp right out of the box, I carry this knife almost all the time ( I am an LEO ). The blade is the perfect size and it is plenty sharp . The mechanism is smooth and has been reliable. It opens very fast. Tghe frosted look of the blade helps to keep it from relecting, something to consider in my job.
Spyderco Wayne Goddard, Nice knife. Not fancy but a great everyday type of tool. It won't shave hair off my arm . Smooth opening and closing and comfortable to carry. I think the scales are a little cheap looking but when I need a knife that's a little larger but still rather plain looking and non intimidating that's the one to go with.
I also have three CRKT knifes. They are nice and inexpensive enough that if they are lost or broken I can replace them.
My favorite one is the M16-11 in AUS118 steel. I am very surprised by how sharp this knife is right out of the box. It will shave hair off my arm as easily as my Benchmade 710. The scales are carbon fiber . The carcon fiber on this knife is not polished, blasted or really anything else and the price reflects this. It is however a very light weight knife that can go anywhere and is not likely to set off anyone as to having a large politically incorrect or menacing hunk of steel.
My other CRKT knife is an M-16 in green tanto, I forget the model number. Everyone I work with thinks it's a great looking knife and I agree. The steel is AUS8 and the knife has thus far been a good preformer. It is light and easy to carry. Fast opening and closing. I'm not sure how strong the coating on the blade is but it is starting to wear a little on the "flipper"
My other CRKT is one I have no real information about. It is the 7012LE. It looks like an S-2 but has a blue anadized scale and a teflon coated blate that is partially serrated. I'm not sure about the steel used but I think it ATS 34 ? As this knife is no longer available I keep it in the box. It is a really nice knife and the blade is very sharp right from the box. The liner lock is easy to use as it slightly raised
Now when my Spyderco Howard Viele gets here I'll be a really happy camper and can see if there is a differance in the Spyderco as you jump into a higher price point.
