I used these Staghorn Sumac berries to make some wild raspberry/sumac-ade. Very tasty! :)

Oh, I would be remiss if I didn't brag on this. It's a belated birthday present from a good friend. She found this beautiful decanter set god-knows-where. Probably some garage sale or estate sale. God bless her for her bargain hunting skills!

Not exactly a wild edible, but one of my favorites! :D

Nice pics!!

That decanter set is too cool. What did you put in it? A nice single malt perhaps?

Mmmm...Scotch, scotch, scotch...Down it goes...Down in my belly.....Scotch, scotch, scotch.

Well, the scotch is good ol', cheap-ass, Old Smuggler Scotch. It's for drinking. :D I like good whiskey, but I also like affordable whiskey. The other decanter is Jim Beam Rye.

Never had the Old Smuggler....Ill have to look for it. I know what ya mean. I have a couple really nice Single Malts I cant bring myself to open...pricey stuff.

I do like the Jim Beam Rye though...

Make sure you are positive on the difference between different Wild Grape (Vitis spp.) species and Canada Moonseed (Menispermum canadense), which, of course, is poisonous.

Thanks for the reminder, Doc! I've made paranoia my policy regarding wild edibles. Thanks again for the book recomendations, especially The Forager's Harvest. That's a special one.

When do you suppose is the time to harvest grapes for wine?

John G If you have a juicer, Get some strawberrys and grapes. Get the juice out of them and mix togher.. Its awsome, actualy when the company naked juice had on office in our area. I gave some of that to a lady that worked there. They liked it so much that they started to make it. I got Bottles of there juice every time she came over as the results lol... You can fermat it as well and i been told it makes some great wine.
