In the world of traditional slipjoints that blade is a "coping" blade. Many vintage and modern whittlers will utilize this blade. It was a favorite for woodworking guys back in the day. They would use this blade to scribe a line, instead of a pencil, along with obvious other uses. The secondary blades on whittlers are thin and razor like.
 
It's not a blade that I use much. But I'm not much of a whittler either. To each his own, all in his own way. That's my philosophy.
 
that locking whittler absolutely slays me! That's my favourite pattern, and it looks to be done about perfect.
I want it! (can't have it :( )
