First off I wanna thank one of our community for his generosity, thank you so much for the gift, you have left me speechless, (yeah like that's ever gonna really happen
) I remember when the Sebenza first came out and like many I held them at the shows, drooled over them in the magazines and dreamt about a time I might own one. 25 years passed by, I still played with them at the show, still drooled over them only on the internet now and even participated in a few Sebenza passarounds still like many I just couldn't do it, just couldn't pull the trigger and drop that kinda money on a knife.
Now don't get me wrong, in the past when I was workin' (and not retired on a fixed income) I'd spent a little money just not that kinda coin on knives. I had a few customs, Benchmades, Spydercos and many of the latest and greatest of the day. Back when I had to choose between family and bills or knives I could justify a couple of hundred each year on a knife for work, (I'd get it back through taxes at the end of the year) I just couldn't rationalize even to myself spending Sebenza kinda money, at least until my daughter was grown and on her own.
Time has a way of workin' out problems and in the case of the Sebenza I realized that maybe I could trade for one and that was how I got my first small plain Jane 21. That worked very well and I was able with the help of a member, (soon to be friend) here to acquire through trade again not only a second but my Birthday Benza.
Now bein' on a fixed income and havin' the bills from 2 major surgeries loomin' over us for the 2016 year so my odds of gettin' a large to round out what I consider to be a Sebenza trifecta (a small plain, a UCG/CGG or inlay and a large or any variation of those) was goin' to be pretty slim and most likely not to be realized for the foreseeable future.
Yesterday that changed, when I came home from physical therapy for what to date has been the 3rd and hopefully last surgery on my shoulder there were 2 boxes on my recliner in the living room, one was a sample of deodorant my wife got me, (I wonder if she's tryin' to tell me something?) and the familiar looking priority mail box. I wasn't expecting anything I told the Mrs, I'd just gotten a Christmas card from another member with a picture and some decals in it but wasn't expecting anything. I recognized the name of a member I was friends with and thought it might have been a Christmas gift. Well when I opened the box my wife thought something was wrong. I literally was speechless. She ran over concerned that there was something really wrong because I wasn't answering her, just staring in disbelief at what the box contained.
Outside of bikers I can't think of a better group of people than the ones in the knife community, they are the most considerate, generous, caring people out there. I've made some great friends in the 40 some years I've been collecting and the 30+ years I've been involved in the knife community and one of them is this gentleman here. Now I'll never out anyone for their generosity and will always respect their privacy/anonymity but I do have to thank you my friend. What you did came at a great time and has done more to boost my moral I wanna give my sincerest thanks to you my friend. After a rough couple of weeks of physical therapy with a few setbacks plus bein' sick over the holiday I was feelin' pretty frustrated and admittedly a little low but after catching my breath and finding my voice I assured the Mrs and read her your letter. She actually had a tear in her eye, she said that the people in the knife community continue to amaze her and the depth of friendships made around knives still baffles her but she said she sees the friendships I've forged over the years and recognizes them as friends and not just "...those knife forum people" I know.
Hope your holiday is filled with good health, great friendships and a better year than last but not as good as the upcoming years.
Thanks again my friend, the ebony inlay is gorgeous,
Ted (The Mad Hungarian) E.
