Hi guys, I have a few old axes I'd like to share with you. Maybe you guys can spread some insight as to whether they are worth a darn or not.

I've got an old Vaughan boys/ camp axe that I already replaced the handle, second handle I have replaced fwiw. I learned a few things rehandleing this one and plan to apply that as I go forward. I really like the size of this axe, I don't think the steel is that great but it works as a camp axe.

I have a Kelly firemans axe I'm thinking about polishing and making a decoration? out of it. Think I could cut the spike off of it and make a user?

Then there is my grandpa's old Craftsman that needs a new handle, but again I'm not sure if it's really worth messing with or if the steel is going to be junk. Anyways, any comments are appreciated. Thanks everyone for the forum.

also, that is about a 12" sq. sheet of aluminum they are on for scale.

The fireman's axe will be hard tempered right through (I suspect) and better left for it's intended purpose than your hoping it can be turned into an ordinary axe. Craftsman-stamped tools are good quality so no need to second guess on this.

Thanks for the reply, so what the heck do I do with a fireman's axe, haha. Pick axe for the garden? I'm not a fireman, nor do I have any in the family to make a nice presentation gift to. Any ideas of uses? The profile of the blade is pretty flat so I don't think it would be a great chopper but I really have no idea. I thought about just polishing it up and handleing it but that makes for a fancy paper weight. Or it could always be a truck axe to go in the tool box I suppose. Then I at least always have a full size axe in the truck.

That's good to hear about the Craftsman, I need to replace my junker big box store axe I have been using. It can be the axe I let anyone else use.

That fireman's axe is like having an axe with a pickaroon on one end. Use it to chop and move wood.
