I wanted a new way to display some of my knives so I pulled the books out of the bookcase and built a little set of steps to sit on the shelf. Top to bottom is only 14" and it's 11" deep. Next project...build another one of these.

Beautiful! Someday I may use this as inspiration. Someday when I don't have 3 young whippersnappers running through the house.

I love it! Such a great idea! It turned out really well, too. Looks just like a piece of the bookshelf!

Another take on a display:

The stand is separate so the display can be moved or changed around. Now I need to make another as many of my larger patterns don't fit this board. :)

The basswood strips are easy to work with and readily available at hobby shops or on the net. The backing is rattle-can painted tempered masonite. I used 1/8" Fineline tape to mask the lines where the strips would be for a secure bond with Titebond wood glue as it doesn't bond well to paint - the finished product is quite strong.

Thanks for the good words...this is the second one I built..the first was in a re-purposed entertainment center. One of the benefits of being a bachelor is there's no one to tell me where I can't put my knives. Some people think the cabinet display is a little low, but from my recliner it's just perfect. A short string of rope LED's behind the top trim works real well for lighting it up. I figure, why buy knives if you can't look at them? Thats a good looking display Jack. Most of my knives are in wall frames but I was running out of room to hang them.

Jack, You sure have some good looking knives in your display...got to ask what the 7th one in from the right side is...the wharncliffe pattern.

Nice job guys! I just finished child proofing my basement for some upcoming visitors. I had to stash away all of the temptations.

Excellent! Thanks for sharing this with us!

I think you mean the Schrade 236 with the black covers. It has a clip & pen blade.
