Just scored myself a nice backup blackjack magnum camp and I need to show it off. However, this new magnum camp brings up some questions. The one I have been using now seems almost like a blem when compared.

My user really feels like a convex grind, while the new one is hands down flat grind. The grind down where it connects to the handle is very uneven. Its also has a uneven grind in the swedge near the tip. Lastly the handles seem to be made out of a different martial. The handles have expanded over time like the ones on my warrior and no longer fit the blade evenly. The new ones are a darker black and look more glossy. The handles on my user are more matt finished and fit the blade perfectly. I thought they were all Esta-Loc in that time period? Any other beckerheads have any insight on this? Maybe I should just talk to mike about all these QC problems :D

I really don't care about these defects. I love this blade. I started out hating the bk5, but they just started to show up randomly when they got discontinued. And the bk20s didn't help either haha. Anyway I've finally come around to this design. I will however say I don't care for the kabar version. The camillus is a little better, but the blackjack is by far the best and I can prove it in one photo.

You can't do that with a camillus or kabar bk5.

Oh and the new one also does not have the "made in USA effingham IL" on the back of the blade. Sooo obviously this is a fake. Ill probably just trash it, or mail it off to anyone who is willing to pay the shipping. oh well, win some lose some. :D

Suhweet! :D

My freebie BK-5 & BK-4 have found a new home with a deserving relative. They shall carry on....
Nice find. :)

possibly old, used, and reground a lot?

what do you expect for a 30 year old hand ground thingy? :D

I don't know they both seem to be in too good of condition to be used and reground a lot.

Maybe my user was as you say made on a friday haha.

They're all good; the BK5 is a very useful knife that punches above its weight - even if you happen to have an imperfect one, irrespective of how it got that way.

Other than if a fake, of course.

Hey KnifeJunkie....

The very first blades I made had flat walnut scales held on by brass cutlery rivets..... Then came ones from 66 series Nylon with a heavy glass fill and then came Estaloc which is a urethane and something else "alloy"....... I suspect that the flat grind was a leftover when BJ went tits up....... All the convex grinds were,of course, hand done on a slack belt..... Always lots of variations involved..... Can't be helped..... The Estalock has a pebbly surface.... Great material on paper but really hard to get consistent shots and it really likes to "creep"'under pressure...... The sales guy was a little too good at his job........ Was a lesson learned........

Hope this helps..... E
