Some Pawn Shop finds

I found a new pawn shop this week. They sure don't know how to price their knives. $50 for a well used LB7, $40 for a very used Buck 110. Then I saw this knife in the corner of the case. The price tag was $6.00, but everything was on sale 20% off. I bought it for $4.50. Think I got a good deal? :D

I looked in the Schrade "E" Catalog and found that this knife appears to be a # 2174 3/4W ("W" standing for white celluloid). The knife fits the description perfectly, except it has no shield, nor any evidence that it is missing one.

It is my new EDC, in a pocket slip case made by Sheathmaker. They sure put good steel in the old Cut Co's!

I got a couple others there too.
A Camillus

A Frontier 4322 that appears to be unsharpened.

Does anyone know if this is the original sheath for the Frontier?

That was how my week went, other than the fact that I went to Blade Show West today. Not many old knives there, though I did pick up a hand scrim-ed LB1 for the 1984 LA Olympics. Probably paid too much though.
How was your week?

That SCC sure is a beauty!

It looks like you got some other bargains as well.

I, too, am amazed at the value pawn shops place on some knives. In some cases, more than when the items were new.

Good finds!

Thanks Glenn.

I just found out that the discoloration on the end of the handle is caused by the the off gassing of the celluloid. There is a larger spot on the other side too.

I guess I will have to take the scales off and set the knife aside until I get time to put new handles on it.
The steel in the blades is excellent & takes a wonderful edge. There is a bit of damage to the blades from the off gassing, but I thought it had been near another knife that was off gassing. I guess I was wrong.
Oh well, it is a great knife except for the handle, and the price wasn't bad. :D

I will let you know how my week went later today, after an auction ends. I need this to fill a spot, and will win it, if it doesn't get sniped out from under me like several have lately.

Dale: Here is a 4621 with a sheath, but I don't think this is the sheath that necessarily came with it, but it fits. I've seen some catalogs for those days where you could buy a sheath by itself, and all of the Imperial and Schrade folding hunters fit into the same sheaths. This one is some pretty stiff old leather. I think yours looks a little better profile and leather quality.

Thawk,
Beautiful 4621! The Powderhorn Stag is my favorite finish in these knives. I agree my sheath has a slightly better looking profile. It is a bit different than the others I have seen, more like yours, but the knife fits perfectly in the sheath. Perhaps Imperial changed suppliers and they made them slightly different. That happened often enough with Schrade.

Thanks for posting the pic of your knife. That is a real beauty. Please let me know if you decide to ever sell it or trade it off.

Here is another similar knife, an Imperial Diamond Edge "DE" 322. I like it as well as the Frontier. The sheath is a Schrade with a USG pin above the Schrade logo. It fits, but is built more like a sheath that comes with a Schrade 125OT or 127UH. It's much nicer than the el Cheapo version I have with that Frontier.
