Some People Don't Deserve Pets

My husband and I were headed to the grocery store on Saturday night when we almost hit this dog in the road. I asked my husband if he would pull over and move the poor thing off to the side so it didn't have to get hit over and over again. He agreed. When he picked up the dog he realized that it was still alive. :( We called the local vet, and he told us to take him to the emergency vet's hospital 40 minutes away. We really believed that the dog had a good chance of survival so off we went. My husband put the dog in the backseat and asked me to sit with the poor thing to comfort him. Hello, I'm the weakest link. I can't stand seeing anything suffer. So I jump in the front seat instead. We didn't get more than a mile up the road before the guilt set in, and I jumped in the backseat. The poor dog had its eye sticking out, but his breathing was pretty strong. I pet him and comforted him all the way to the vet's hospital. When we were about five minutes from our destination, I noticed the pup wasn't breathing anymore. :( We ran him in anyhow and asked them to do whatever they could for him. We even agreed to take financial responsibility. Anyhow, after what seemed like an endless time doing CPR they told us that the pup didn't make it. :( He was an adorable little mini pincher.

Here's what really annoys me. The vet told us that they'd keep the body for three days, and if no one claimed it then they'd get rid of it. This was a really cute little fellow, and he had a collar. Surely there must be a family out there that is freaking out wondering where their little buddy went. Both yesterday and today I have driven around town looking for "Lost Dog" signs. I haven't seen one yet. I called the vet's office twice today. No one has called looking for their little friend. There's only one vet in our area. They did mention that someone called saying that they found a mini pincher.

All I can say is that if that was my dog there wouldn't be a tree in North Florida without a sign on it. That poor, little guy suffered for a long time and no one cares. I don't know the owners, but I know that I don't like them. I'm going to go and look for a website on voodoo dolls now.

Some dogs just go away for a day or two on walkabout. The owners may not get upset if the dog is just gone for a day.

Also, people looking for a lost dog are most likely to call the pound. Is the pound aware of the situation?

You don't see any stray dogs where I live because the traffic is way too busy for walkabouts.

The vet's office told me that they notified the pound and haven't heard anything back. In my area the most obvious call is the vet's office since there is only one. They told me that everyone calls them when their dogs go missing.

Allowing a dog to go on walkabout even it wants to is a bad thing itself, but some owners do. It could explain why the owners haven't apparently made any great effort.

It also could have been dumped off by someone who didn't want it. That happens ALOT out here  People don't want a dog so they take it out away from home and drop it off by the side of the road. I don't know whether they think its going to enjoy living out in the country or what, but they usually starve, get hit by cars, or get into some other kind of trouble

Your right, some people shouldn't have pets

My kitty (June-Bug) has been missing for a few weeks now (a couple of months?), and I am totally heart-sick over it. I raised her from a little kitten of only just 2-3 weeks old (her mother was run-over by a car), and she was given to us by our Vet. We had her for about 18 months or so, and I have NEVER loved an animal as much as Miss June-Bug...She was MY GIRL...

I only hope that somehow another family has taken her in and is giving her the love and care that I did, as I just can't bear to think that she met the same horrible fate that her mother did.:(.:(.

Sorry for carrying-on, but I REALLY miss my little June-Bug, and I'd give 10 years of my life to have her back...:(.:(.

Damn...

I'm terribly sorry about June-Bug Glockman. :( I really hope that you find her soon.

Just adopted a 6 month old pup from a private rescue facility south of Atlanta on Friday. I wish I could have gone home with all of the 60 or so animals this lady had rescued. Too many people get pets without an understanding of the committment it takes. When you put forth the constant effort they become a family member.

Dann I hope JuneBug shows up.

Relax. You've just had a lesson in life in the cruel world. Don't let it get you down. You went over and above doing the right thing. Let it go.

I have two dogs. One is a Boston Terrier named Mustard. The other is a chow/mutt from the pound. Both are terriffic dogs.

I enjoy their company more than I enjoy the company of 95% of people.

Animal cruelty/neglect breaks my heart.

Ever seen those "Dog Cop" shows where they investigate and arrest people who hurt animals? Those cops are my heroes.

Did you ever see that show the animal cops? they go around and rescue abused animals. I think that what those people do is great and I don't know how they don't lose their cool. If I did that job I would VERY tempted to give my nightstick a workout on some of these scumbags.

People don't understand that like us our pets only get one life to live and it is up to us to decide the quality of that life.

What other creature besides a dog will show you the same level of love and devotion? That Dog would DIE for you! And people who forget that aren't worthy owners. If you own a pet you owe them the life they deserve!

I have trouble watching animal cops.

Catching a loose dog ok no problem, but then there's the cat wachos that have a zillion cats most of them 1/2 dead already. And the dog fight/abuse/neglect wachos.

"Sir, did you know the dog in your back yard is almost starved to death?"
"Nah! it's my son's dog, he went to prison a couple of weeks ago."
"Didn't you think you should feed it or give it to someone?"
"Nah! It's my sons dog. He feeds it!"

I shotgun all those people...

I have a sick addiction to "amimal cops" on Animal Planet. Half the time I end up crying over what has happened to those poor animals, but I have some sort of perverse pleasure when they nail the people who put the animals in that position in the first place. Justice served, almost. I both hate and love this show.

Jsmatos, you have my respect for caring about that dog and trying to help it. I once came home to find a woodchuck in my yard with a broken back. I drove a half-hour to a wildlife rehabilitation place, after spending about 20 minutes with my ex trying to get it into a box to transport it without being bitten. We called the next day and they told us that they had to euthanize it because it was too badly injured. I figured that was better than leaving the poor thing alone to die slowly.

I hope that the owners of that dog had been looking for him and that he was missed. If anything like that ever happened to my dog, I'd be thrilled to find someone so kind to help her out as you did. I also would never let my dog roam outside of her fenced-in yard unless I had her on a leash. She is too curious, and too young, to be able to protect herself.

Most of the dogs I've had as pets started out as strays that managed to cross my path. Clyde is the latest... he's my buddy going on 10 years! I've done my share of trying to find the owners of these 'lost' dogs but have decided if they truly wanted their pets found, they would have some type of ID on them. None of these buddies of mine ever had a collar with any type of ID until I took them in. I've taken "Found" ads out in the local newspaper, called local police departments, animal groups, drove around the area where I found the dog looking for "Lost" posters & not once did I 'hook' up with a concerned owner. Quite frankly... I don't think I'd give the "Lost" dog back to such an undeserving owner anyway!

The thing about it is the people who do neglect and abuse these animals don't have **** happen to them from the law. They get a fine and are sent on their way. It's good that the animals are rescued but the punishments should be stiffer for the people who do these things.

I have two Pit Bulls that I love with all my heart and have been raised the right way. They love people, especialy kids.

People that Fight their dogs deserve much more than a fine, I think a fitting punishment would be to have the **** beaten out of them with a billy club.

They could send the criminals to me I would be happy to hand out the beatings!
