I thought I'd post some photos from Blade Show 2013. The show this year was a whole lot of awesome (as usual) sprinkled with surprises. Some of the surprises were fantastic, one bordered on the surreal. It was great getting to see old friends and colleagues I don't get to hang out with very often. It was also great making the acquaintance of new friends. One of the fantastic surprises was a cool new collaboration prototype that I will be testing privately for a knife maker I will not name. It's funny because I have been instructed to post no photos of a knife made for testing because the knife is not up to the maker's normal high standards....yet the knife still has more time, effort, and craftsmanship put into it than many knives I regularly see offered for sale. The surprise that really bordered on the surreal was to have one of my favorite knife makers walk up and show me a knife that I loved, but had given to an individual on BF in a give away because it was obvious he needed a good field knife from his photos. I had been inspired by my friend Rotte to take a higher road in give-aways. The maker recovered the knife from another individual who bought it off ebay. This gives me pause for thought and will definitely factor heavily in future give-aways, considering the conversations with the individual at the time of the give away and a few afterward. I will put a lot more thought into the next one.
The show is held at the Cobb Galeria in Atlanta Georgia

There is always a good crowd, and an eclectic assortment of wares

The first stop was at the Martin Knives booth to drop off the prototype of the Caiman for him to display, check out the final design, and to pick up something I have been wanting for over thirty years (the knife in the leather sheath at the front of the table).

A fellow Martin Knives fan, and one of the guys to turn me on to their knives a few years ago.

I think maybe the EMCII is a little big for the wife...she did get some funny looks! But it sure came in handy later that night dealing with the cheese platter back at the hotel

Had to stop by to see Rob and his lovely wife at the Exotac booth.

The next stop making my way across the room was at Andy's table to see what was going on.

The missus picked up a new shirt.

I picked up a Woodsman Andy and I had talked about.

Dylan Fletcher of Fletcher Knives and his lovely wife

The better halves of Fiddleback Forge and Fletcher knives are always a bright spot in the day

I stopped by Rick's table and found a note...

His knives were a bit late and he was looking like this...

But his knives did eventually make it, and some beautiful pieces they were indeed!! Then he was all smiling and stuff. It's funny, Rick smiling isn't always a scary sight...
