But first, some context.
Years ago, way before I had even heard of Bladeforums, I had a lot of anxiety issues, OCD, and who knows what else. Going outdoors was a source of anxiety, not the cure, and I was less than pleased with it. Things happened that got the boy and I into Scouts, and that helped, and then I ended up here in BK&T land. I had a lot of "firsts" associated with getting out there that began ultimately with my time spent here in BK&T. All of which culminated with newfound love of the outdoors. One of my earliest hikes saw me and the Major (he was just the Captain at the time) hiking an area near here, finding a spot to chill and cook some steak over a fire. (See this thread here.)
Here are some of the key pics from that hike:
BK&T and Steak
An interesting overhang near one of the rivers/creeks in that area
Unfortunately that last picture was nowhere near enough to really show how cool that area was. Granted, at that time my experience outside here in WV was pretty limited, but for one of my first outings I really thought it was one of the more beautiful areas I had seen. What made it so very special, and another first for me, was that after this trip, instead of reacting with a compulsive fit of handwashing and anxiety, I was relaxed. I was chill, and it took the Major reminding me before I even noticed it. After being outdoors for quite some time that day, I didn't react the way I normally would have, and that was a huge milestone for me. Unfortunately the Major was never really able to remember how to get back there, and I was never able to get back and get more pics. Then yesterday, out of the blue, I decided to ask if he had any luck remembering it, he did, so I went. And I got a few more pics this time not only of the overhang but also the lake at the nearby state park.
This is the same overhang area. It looks a lot different from before, but there has been a lot of really heavy rains in the years since I had last been there. Also I think I was a little bit further up last time we had stopped to look, but I'm not 100% sure.
After looking around we headed down to the state park to check out the lake. It was covered in huge patches by all sorts of lillies of some sort.
The old lady's new Jeep.
Lillies! (Or something. Really I have no idea what they were.)
All in all it turned out to be a beautiful day in a beautiful area with a beautiful lady, so I couldn't have asked for anything more. No knifey antics this time around, but I did have a couple with me in case things needing doing.
