Here are the pics from my finished Chinese Utility Knife fixed blade project. I asked Sal before I stole the design (which is a traditional pattern, anyway), so I thought I'd show the results of the project. It is obviously a variation on Lum's folder, which is going to be super-popular for Spyderco. The blade was made from 5/32" D-2 by Madpoet Custom Knives and features a high flat grind. My surname initial (A) is fileworked into the spine, too! I did all the finish work, using canvas Micarta (courtesy of Kit Carson...thanks!) for the handle scales. I used stainless pins and then made the mosaic pins with aluminum and brass tubing/rod stock myself. The epoxy is red if you can't tell from the picture.

The etching was done with ferric chloride solution and candle wax, and as well as I could figure out it is a variation of the Chinese characters meaning "utility" (clever, eh?

I thought you'd be interested to see it, as it is soon to become a Spyderco folder design (I can't wait!).

Chiro75 - Very pretty piece, and I'm sure quite functional. That wide flat ground blade is sure to be a performer, especially in D2.

Very nice! You'll have a nice set when the folders are released.

Hey, that's one neat design ! Now you ought to get one made up in Talonite, that would be one great slicer. Not that D2 is any slouch, but this design screams for Talonite's benefits (IMHO)
Anyway, nice job.

Talonite, eh? What do you think, I'm made of money?

Talonite is as close to my budget as building a rocket and flying to the moon! Maybe in ten years when I have my loans paid off I can buy some more serious metals, but for the time being I have to scrape by! A sponsor would be nice...
