I did this early last fall before deer season came in. I was tired of the plain, old, ugly gray of the composite stock on my Remington 710 .270.

So, I did a little research on what others were doing to their rifle stocks and what paint to use. I got some pictures of different camo patterns, studied them and set out cutting my own stencils from frisket. And this is what I ended up with, beginning to end:

Lightly sanded and scuffed with green scotchbrite, wiped down with acetone:

First a base coat of khaki/tan:

Next, a layer of large and small tree branch shapes:

Next, I took a piece of sponge torn off and dipped it in some light grey to dab on the branches for treebark:

Now, I start layering on the leaf stencils with green and brown. I cut a seperate stencil to use as the leaf veins with different colors:

Some extra shots of added thin branches and details:

This is fully assembled after about 9 coats of exterior grade satin clear:

Camo must have worked :) I took 3 deer this past fall with it. 1 on opening day, and 2 within 30 minutes of each other about 5 days before end of season. All from the same stand.

I know a lot of people balk at the 710 and how it's not as good as a 700 and all that. It's not designed to be as high of quality as the 700...it's designed to be a very good entry level rifle that comes ready to hunt with out of the box. I bought this one used form a guy I worked with. I've taken 5 deer with it total. 5 shots, 5 kills. 3 were neck shots at close to 100 yards. :)

Just thought I would share one of my projects!

Thats very nice.Just that basecoat was a huge improvement. The rest is pure art.
