I'm happy that you decided to keep the knife, we had a lot of those "my knife has some dings at the pommel end and a tiny scratch in the blade coating, I'm sending it in" guys lately, I was a bit oversensitive probably. Didn't mean to step on your toes, though.

It is probably eggs of some kind of a butterfly or a moth. Looks pretty big - it's worth watching it for what will come out...
