i'm perfectly happy with my lite machete and ontario 12" but man, i just can't resist another one. i didn't even bring a machete on my last overnighter to save more weight but i definitely missed having one - i guess i'm just a machete guy.

i like the bushcraft-style deep carry but the belt loop sure is weird.

untouched from the factory - the spine is sharp for striking a firesteel and it's actually shaving sharp!

same thickness as the ontario 12" but significantly lighter at 10 oz vs. 16 oz.

i started with a bk-9 then it felt sluggish when i got a junglas...then i tried a friend's busse basic 10 and that made the junglas feel sluggish...then the ontario 12 made the busse feel sluggish...now the kiwi machete makes the ontario feel sluggish! heh, i wonder if something else will top the kiwi down the road in this category.

ive never had l6 steel before so i'm curious how it'll hold up to heavy use.

It looks like a Mora and a machete had a baby! I like it.

That's the Mora #333. :D

I'd say that it's like an Ontario and a Mora #333 had a baby. I haven't found anything with that much chopping ability in such a light package.

I recently got a couple more in stock and one came with the leather sheath and one with the yellow polyurethane sheath and honestly while I like the premium element of leather and the polyurethane isn't very pretty...it does seem very practical! It's not just straight-up polyurethane, but rather fabric-inserted poly. So it's a heavy plastic-coated fabric instead, which is much more durable. It's double layered with a leather welt.

Can you post pics of the new sheath? That sounds interesting.

I hate threads like this!!
They bump my I want list

It sure looks like a winner

How does this pair with the General Purpose knife as a set?

sorry for the late response - crazy busy lately. i'll probably be able to do an overnighter late next week and will report back.

...

Looking forward to it. At only 10 oz, this really has my interest as a tool for around the house.

Sure! I just got back from a long weekend at the family camp, though, so it'll have to wait until I get caught up with orders that need to ship out. :D

Is there really a hollow grind on it? Thanks!

Yup! It's a hollow primary grind on it.

Just got done with packaging, so here are those photos of the polyurethane version of the sheath. Sorry for the low quality--I had to use my webcam since I still haven't replaced my dead digital camera. :o

sorry, i don't have one and not planning on getting one. i like the web of my hand/index finger & thumb to be as close to the blade as possible when doing feather sticks and the svord belt knives' handle shape prevents that with the large finger guard.

i can't tell with my eyes and hands except the area between right after the belly and towards the tip. fortytwoblades says yes so i guess it is and it's just very subtle. the man knows his machetes so i believe him

Good looking machete JV, I like that.

thanks, brian. yeah, i got tired of waiting for a fiddleback forge 12" machete to become available so i snagged this one instead.

regarding the hollow grind, it seems as though initial coarse grinding is done as a hollow grind, then mostly ground over to further thin the bevel overall. This results in some examples showing the hollow grinding more or less than others. On some it will feel concave in a spot or two but flat in others. Etc. etc. :)
