Hey, I'm in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut for a community meeting.

Thought you might enjoy some pictures from the frozen north. Sorry about the lousy shots. I'm using my phone. Its hard to capture the scale and isolation up here on a tiny camera. Average daily temperature has been around -45C. Yesterday it was -51 below and they had to shut the airport down due to blizzard conditions. Completely different world up here. Dependent on generators for power, no road access, harsh temperatures, high cost of life basics (food esp.) Luckily I've got the gear and and experience to deal with it, but it's an eye opener nonetheless. Anyway, enjoy!

I'll post more if I can

I'm in Minnesota, which is cold enough, but that area looks like it would turn your balls to ice in no time.

Wow. that's something. what a harsh climate, talk about the polar opposite of where i live practically! thanks for sharing pictures of such a unique and different climate and locale. Stay toasty!

wow.. looks very cold. cool pics too. i live outside of Tampa FL.. the coldest this year (if i had to guess) has been in the 40s... and that usually only lasts 1-2 days... quite the contrast. thanks for sharing

Reminds me of St. Paul and Barrow, nice to visit(for a day or two). Ruff to stay more than a week

Wow I thought -30C in Toronto was bad, and that only happens once a year nowadays, if that.

Cool pictures though, cool to see the world up there.

Nice photos, the temps are looking balmy here in northern Utah!
Hey I noticed Steven king is the senior admin for Cambridge bay. Spooky!!

Cool pics. I've always been fascinated with that area. Thanks for sharing.
Hmmmmmm, I wonder how well 1095 holds up to those temps...

that's cold. i've always been drawn to those places. however, i know that's very different than actually being there. thanks for the glimpse.

It's an amazing place. Most of the community still relies on "country food" for most of their protein and hunting/fishing is a way of life. Southern foods are extremely high priced. Think grapes and bananas at $7.99/kg. There tends to be a high consumption of junk food though. Lots of chocolate bars, chipss and especially soda. Many of these small northern communities seem to be trapped between two worlds; you have the traditional way of life kept alive by elders and the Southern, money driven lifestyle, made increasingly possible by resource development.

Oh, and some Becker content:D My BK14 on a 5lb. Arctic Char we had for dinner one night.

As desolate as it is, it's pretty easy to fall in love with the Arctic. I spent years working on the Melville Peninsula, Baffin Island, and Greenland and loved every minute of it...

Arctic Char... no better tasting fish exists in my opinion!

Enjoy your time up there, and thanks for the pics!
