Not a bother at all.
Damascus is great and I don't blame you for loving it.

But.. that pattern... isn't really Damascus.

It's a fake etched Damascus pattern.
The knife isn't really made of Damascus steel, it's just a design that was etched onto the blade.

Merry Christmas to you as well.

Yep. That's all there is to say about that blade.

How can you tell the difference?
I suppose it is hard to be 100%. I remember when I first started collecting, holding a very handsome bowie with a "damascus" blade. It was very well done, but seemed strange in some way. The pattern was very neat & regular, The lines were the same thickness, the coloring was 2 tone, just silver & a perfect gray. Real damascus just isn't that perfect. The lines get fatter & thinner, the colours mix & merge. The example above has a series of sharp, regular bends in front of the ricasso. I don't think you get that on real damascus. It's all too neat.

These are my observations, I am not a damascus specialist.

I agree it's too neat.
Plus you can just tell when Damascus is true or not.
At least I can.

This knife - appears to just be on the surface as you can tell, real damascus is through the whole blade or at least has several layers. This is one layer on the surface, so it's been etched.

Some fake damascus can look real so you have to be careful.
This however is one layer on the surface of the blade with no layers visible and the pattern is too clean.
You can twist steels and such to make patterns but many of them are random and there are none the same.
Look up a duplicate of this and it will look exactly the same.

But I wouldn't buy damascus if it's not from a brand or maker you trust.
I would look into it if you're not sure.

There are also several Pakistan made knives with real damascus, however it's not well made damascus with decent steels, it's likely made of several not so good steels.
