Some questions about Busse knives.

So I got all my kids raised and out the door, got the soon to be ex off my back and finished a year of the most gruelling work at my job I decided it's time to buy my self some high-end cutlery. I apologize upfront for any and all new guy questions and thank you in advance for your patience.

So Busse knives is pretty much where I'm at. Years ago I watched a Ron Hood video where he made a figure 4 dead fall using a Busse battle mistress and a smaller knife I could not identify. At that time I decided I needed one of those. The other option is the Team Gemini LB. In my research I saw that all of the folks who got these knives are satisfied. No gripes about quality, only about how long it took to get their knives. On the website it says that they charge a buck, then when the knife ships they collect the full amount owed, and that it it should take about 4-14 weeks. I'm cool with that. Just wanted to ask if that's pretty much how it go's. I guess I'm asking how you guys purchasing experience was? Did it take the 4-14 weeks or was it a bit longer or shorter? Also, since the knives come without sheaths, which of the two models (LBTG or BM) are more easy to buy a sheath off the shelf for? For the most part, a loyal SpecOps customer and not real big on Kydex. Good stuff, just doesn't do it for me.

Well, thanks for any responses. Especially since this question may be annoying. I'll let y'all know what I picked when I do. So you know, I'm leaning towards the Battle Mistress. Good day y'all.

Welcome. My buying experiences through the website typically come in under the posted time. Off the shealf sheaths are tough. I prefer leather and there are many leathersmiths on the forum that can make you very nice sheaths.

Time varies, I've waited a few days for one and a few weeks for others. It depends on the maker-some are fulltime, others part time with full lives on top of their leather trade. These pics should answer any questions about the leathersmiths here on the forum:

The first one is from Condos Leather and the last two from Kelly Custom Leather. Both are posters here.

I'm sure the kydex mafia will show up soon!

Welcome!
If you wanna go big? Grab the ASHBM with both hands and hang on!!!
Usually unless you order something from the Custom shop (or mods that require more work), the 4 -14 weeks is pretty accurate for the knives on the site.
It may take a little longer right now with Blade being 6 weeks out.

Sheaths, I don' think SpecOps makes anything big enough for the ASHBM.
There are quite a few sheath makers here, you could try Leatherman or Knife Leather for leather, or if you want a real interesting sheath contact Dave Brown (BuyBrown) about his Leather/Kydex Mutant sheaths.
They're really cool, leather on the show side, kydex on the go side.

Here's a little Busse Porn for ya since "this thread is useless without pix!" ;)

Thanks for the input on Busse shipping. I'm pretty excited about the purchase. If I go with the LBTG my sheath options are real good. I'll just order a Specops combat master. The battle mistress is the one I would have to do in leather I think. Just seems right.

My suggestion - If you know what you want, then order the sheath at the same time you order the knife. I thought I wasn't a kydex fan either until I saw some of the great work the talented makers around here produce. On a big knife kydex definitely lightens the load and gives you multiple carry options to boot. Good Luck with your purchases!

I have never ordered through the Online Store so not sure about the estimated time. I order directly with one of the Great Ladies Lexi or Pokey by phone that way I can make my special request for extra services. For the items you are looking at they seem to be pushing them out quicker than in the past for standard stocking items. You might get lucky and they might have one already made up in your configuration. I've seen a few posts where the TGLB was ordered and shipped out in less than 3 weeks....That's Smokin' Fast!!!!!

Welcome to the Busse Madness enjoy your stay plenty of knowledge here on all things BUSSE.....:D

See, that doesn't make my decision any more easy. Something about the battle mistress says "let's go big boy, you know you want to". Nice knives.

That's my plan. I figure I'm going big on the knife, no need to scrimp on its clothes. Specops is about as cheap as I'll go.

Welcome. We are all newbe's at some point. You may also want to watch the Blade Forum's Busse Exchange (Sales/trade) page. ASHBM's and TGLB's (and many, many others!), appear with great regularity. Also very informative and fun to view the breadth of the Busse phenomenon. Good Luck....;-)

Hey thanks for posting. I just ordered my first today and was looking into sheaths myself

Oh just wait until its in your hand....Its harrrrrrrrrrrd to stop at just ONE....these big blades are Addictive....next thing you know your peddling all your lawn and garden implements to fund another Big Blade just to turn all your trees into fuzz sticks and kindling....Pssssst hey there buddy interested in a hedge trimmer....There is no 12 Step Program for the Busse Addiction....:cool:

Both of my orders were under 4 weeks. Right at 3 both times if I remember right. I carry mone in the combat master and I have no complaints. It is about a tad longer than it needs to be, but no big deal. I did use the wife's hair dryer to reshape the insert a little to make it grip the blade at the bottom of the fuller instead of at the top just ahead of the finger guards. Keeps it from rattling and ot pops loose it slides out easily the rest of the way.

Of course you can stop at just the one....well maybe two....but oooooh look a third.....wait.....

Uhhh Huuuh Sure......just wait until an ASH-1 pops up on the exchange...you'll be out working your corner or trying to sell "LNIB" Body parts........Baawwwwhahahahahaha...:D:D:D:eek:

Welcome thumb! TGLB was my first also. You will not stop at 1. You will buy more....and good thing you don't have a wife to nag you about that awesome chunk of INFI you just spent a month's mortgage on. I also have a SpecOps sheath for my TGLB, two actually, one with the pocket and one without. The one without is how I carry it....and I carry it alot......after a while you forget it's there. Mean Street might be a great edc for ya also.....check em all out. Glad to see another BUSSE addict joining us. Once that first piece of INFI isnin your hands....I promise you will be hooked.

This is good advice. Order your TGLB now. If the ASHBM is going to be a user, then watch and wait on the Sale forum, and one will eventually come along at a good value.

btw, the Old School SHBM, like Ron Hood used, do show up occasionally. One just sold for $725.

You are going to buy both. You just are--it's been in your blood for too long not to.

Might as well go ahead and order a TGLB and ASHBM--you'll only have one waiting period for delivery and you'll save a little on shipping charges. If you don't, there will come a time when you look back and think, "Oh yeah. I should have."

And--oh, by the way? On some level you already know. ;)
