Some Questions About Older Cold Steel Knives

one of my local gunshops has a few for sale. they're older ones, some i've never seen before. the story behind them is, some woman came in and sold a bunch her deceased husband had in storage.

most are in unused condition, and come with their original boxes. one is a small push dagger, without the kraton handle, that comes with a leather sheath. there are some opinel-styled folders, with black epoxied blades, a diver-styled dagger (skeletonized), a Magnum Tanto, and the one i'm really interested in: a partially serrated, tanto bladed Triple Action folder.

i'vw always wanted a Triple Action folder. the one available is LNIB, with no scuff marks on the blade. the asking price is $25. i know these originally went for much more, so i'll be buying it tomorrow. my question is about the other knives. i'm unfamiliar with them, so i have no idea if the asking price on them are great deals, or not.

the push dagger is going for about $30, the opinel styled ones are around $10, the dagger is $40, and the tanto is $50. there were a few newer ones available as well, that i wasn't interested in, like the Mini Tac, a Vietnam Hawk, the Ti Lite, and one of the newest push daggers.

i guess what i'm asking is: should i go ahead and buy up all of the older ones, before someone else does? i'll ask the store owner if i can take pics of the knives, so i can post them here.

Is that push dagger plain edge? It's a good purchase.

The Opinel-style are a very good purchase, at $10 they're a steal. The blades are Carbon V. The series was called Twist Masters.

Heck, those prices sound very good. Especially 50 for the magnum tanto. If I was there I would buy them myself! Go for it!;)

The push dagger sounds like the urban pal (the older version didnt have kraton and was plain edge). The dagger sounds like the urban shiv which is something I have been questing for lol. I am jealous of your position.

as esav mentioned the opinels are called twistmasters & i still kept a coupal. the twistmasters were fatastic values ,at one time i was buying them by the doz. for all my friends. the med. twist will easily do a complete deer w/o touching up. the carbon 5 alloy was ahead of it's time.

The Triple Action folders bombed. The aluminum of the handle tends to wear out around the pivot and then the blade wobbles. I say it's still worth the money, just don't expect to sit around mindlessly flipping it for hours, but the blade is a good worker as long as you don't abuse the handle.

All those knives are worth the money. After you get them, decide which you want to keep, and the others will be easy to sell.

You need a Gold membership to sell on BF, but the money you'd make selling a few of those would pay for the membership. :D

i generally don't sell knives anyway, unless i'm really strapped for cash. i tend to only buy things i like, which makes it hard to part with them.

this isn't the first time i got a deal for CS knives. i managed to snag a SK-5 Trailmaster, LNIB, for $10 last year, at another local gun shop. i'm friendly with the owner, so whenever he gets knives in, he gives me a call to come have a look.

just got from the store, and i didn't come back alone. accompanying me were the Triple Action folder, with a fully serrated tanto point, and a Twistmaster, with a large clip point blade. someone snatched up the push dagger the Mini Bushman, and the store owner got wise, and raised the price of the Master Tanto from $50 to $100. kind of a dick move, but he's entitled to turn a profit, i suppose.

both of my scores are in nearly mint condition. the T.A. folder has some scuffing on the bottom of thehandle, on the clip side. the Twistmaster is flawless, but it came with no box. no matter; i plan on using it eventually.;)

Are you kidding? $10.00?

I couldn't live with myself if I did that, I'd feel so guilty.

Yeah, sure I would. :p

well, i did tell him what they retailed for. he didn't care; he doesn't move a lot of the knives he gets in, and he rarely stocks anything more than a few Buck or Case folders and some Leathermans. i've also been a loyal customer for years, and sometimes i just go to shoot the shit with him and the two elderly twins that hang out in the store.

i asked him at least 20 times if he was sure he wanted to sell it for that little. he finally said, "what, do you want to give me $100 today? i have that fishing tackle over there that i need to move."

i don't fish, so i gave him the $10.
