Some questions/concerns about my new HEAT/F 3D G10 Elmax

I just got the 3D machined G10 HEAT/F with the blackwashed Elmax blade as a rainy-day alternative to my full Ti Niolox version. There are a couple of things that I have questions about, and I'm wondering if they're defects and if I should try to return it for a replacement.

First, the G10 scale is not the same size as the Ti Lockside scale. here's a pic.

Second, the lockbar chamfer is more widely machined than on the full-ti version. So much so that not only does it not match the continuation of the scale near the pivot, but it has me concerned that as the lock wears in (as my full-ti version did) that the blade tang will stick out past the lockbar. Here's some pics, G10 Elmax first, then full-ti Niolox.

I would appreciate any input. Thanks!

I also own the full-ti Niolox version of the HEAT/F and remain impressed with the quality and precision of its fit and finish - in that regard, the Niolox HEAT certainly rivals the best Taichung Spyderco productions and invites (aside from its debatable lock geometry) comparison with my Sebenzas. It is certainly one of the best production knives I have seen and is a great accomplishment for both DPx and Lionsteel.

I would, however, never be able to convince myself that the G10 Elmax version shouldn't share the same qualities as the Niolox issue. Sloppy for sure: I suspect that the titanium lock-bar side is a (not fatally) defective sample since there is no reason for its chamfering not to be continuous with that of the frame in front of it, as it so beautifully is on the Niolox full-ti . The differently sized (or improperly registered) G10 slab would, for me, also be a deal breaker and would be a constant reproach if I convinced myself to keep it.

Wow, is that your first post in 10 years? Thanks for dropping the iron curtain to help me! I agree with all of your points. Unless the Lionsteel Mod chimes in today with an official "yes this is fine" comment, I think I will contact the seller and request an exchange. Thanks again!

Here I am.... Part time, today is the last holiday day.

Point one -Ti frame, we start from 4 mm, G10 we start from 5 mm. G10 is not strong enough like Titanium, for this reason the size of the G10 is bigger.

Point two- you can see the milling is round, the frame can not touch the G10. You can use it without any problem.

Thanks for the reply GianniLion! I'm not sure you quite understood my concerns, though.

For my first concern, I'm not troubled with the thickness of the G10, but the dimensions, more specifically the height as seen in my first picture. It's even quite visible in my second picture. The G10, above the pivot in those pictures, is shorter than the Ti.

My second concern is not about the lockbar touching the G10, but about the corner of the blade tang coming out past the lockbar chamfer as it breaks in.

Hello Mauddib1116,

Dale here from the knife connection where you purchased the knife.

I pulled a knife from stock and checked on both areas of your concern.

Without having the knife in hand, so based on your pictures, I don't see a problem with the lock-up mechanism.

I do not like the looks of the one scale being shorter than the other side. The one I pulled from stock matches very well.

We will certainly replace the knife for you. Just send it back with a copy of the invoice and a note written on it telling us that you would like a replacement.

Thanks!
