I decided I wanted to try "building" a vintage axe. Purchased a 2 1/4 pound plumb head from ebay.
Got it, and a boy's axe haft from House Handle. So far so good. I've been reading what I can find
about how to hang it, looking at pics etc. I did an overnite vinegar bath to remove rust from the eye,
then soaked it in water with some baking soda to neutralize the acid. The vinegar left the tempered
area darker, but the soda bath reversed it..I'm really liking the patina, it's kind of grayish-green.
Anyway, looking at the eye, I realized it's a little off, and I couldn't find any info on that. My only
other axe is a Plumb hatchet from my boy scout days, and it's eye is more uneven, but the pics
I have seen on here look more or less perfect in that regard. So, what do you think?
Will it affect the useability of the axe?
