I've been a little less active on the forum here lately (I blame grad school, hunting season, and Skyrim.), so I have a few projects that I haven't shared yet.
First, the Eskabar got handle scales.
I made a ghillie suit
from an old jacket, netting,
and unraveled burlap sacks.
My brother requested a paracord call lanyard for Christmas, and I think it turned out pretty good.
I have also been rifle shopping.
This is my first centerfire rifle, and as such will be my only rifle for a while, so I wanted something handy and versatile. I had really been wanting the new Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle, but they are pretty expensive and currently hard to find.
Deer season came, and I still hadn't found a rifle. I ended up borrowing Dad's old .30-30 and came to really like the size, weight, and handling of a lever action. I just was never satisfied with the old open sights. So began my quest for a lever scout.
I found a used Marlin 336W in good condition at a local pawn shop. I then ordered and installed an XS Lever Rail.
I now have a short, light, and handy rifle that fires a common, easily found cartridge and is compatible with traditional scopes, scout scopes, or red dot sights for about half the cost of the Ruger scout rifle.
