I've been a little less active on the forum here lately (I blame grad school, hunting season, and Skyrim.), so I have a few projects that I haven't shared yet.

First, the Eskabar got handle scales.

I made a ghillie suit

from an old jacket, netting,

and unraveled burlap sacks.

My brother requested a paracord call lanyard for Christmas, and I think it turned out pretty good.

I have also been rifle shopping.

This is my first centerfire rifle, and as such will be my only rifle for a while, so I wanted something handy and versatile. I had really been wanting the new Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle, but they are pretty expensive and currently hard to find.

Deer season came, and I still hadn't found a rifle. I ended up borrowing Dad's old .30-30 and came to really like the size, weight, and handling of a lever action. I just was never satisfied with the old open sights. So began my quest for a lever scout.

I found a used Marlin 336W in good condition at a local pawn shop. I then ordered and installed an XS Lever Rail.

I now have a short, light, and handy rifle that fires a common, easily found cartridge and is compatible with traditional scopes, scout scopes, or red dot sights for about half the cost of the Ruger scout rifle.

Cool stuff bro!!! I made a call lanyard also one time. Mine didn't come out that nice though.

Nice rifle.

Lever action ... very cool. And perfect for some sniper action with the ghillie :D

Thanks, everyone.

Flexxx: It's a Bushnell TRS 25. It's no Aimpoint of course, but seems to be pretty good for a cheaper red dot. It has held zero after being removed from the rail.

lol man great post. the paracord work is cool and man the patina on the 14 looks great.

also, I hear you on the whole skyrim thing :)

Sweet Marlin, Shadow!
I've got exactly the same setup (minus the red dot) on an older 336.
How do you like those ghost ring sights? I love 'em so far.

awesome everything! i've wanted to try making my own ghillle suit for a while.
p.s. i totaly understand what you mean about skyrim taking up all your time!

Hey nice pics, I used to hunt with n old marlin, that rail would have come in handy!

Yeah, it can eat up some time.

I like them too, now that I've learned to use them. At first, I couldn't get them sighted in because I was lining up the post in the arperture like open sights. Once I learned to ignore the ring and let my eye and brain center the front sight automatically, it was very accurate.

Cool setup. I had never seen that rail before. It looks like it would be handy if you wanted to be able to change things up.

I miss my 336, Sold it a few years ago to build an ar platform. One of the dumber things I've done, the thing was dead nuts accurate too.

I got a killer deal on a 336 a while back but I've only taken it shooting one time. I like the gun but I never shoot the thing and I'm thinking of letting it go. probably get me a trapper .44mag instead.

Marlin 336 in 30-30.
According to all the gun gurus, they won't even kill deer.
Great gun, I didn't know they made that scout rail for the 336, only the shorter one.
I like the BK14.
