My Rubicon showed up yesterday, and I shot a few quick and dirty photos this morning. It's on the dark and rainy side here and I was too lazy to grab any of my lights, so I apologize a little for the photo quality.

This is a really pretty knife, IMO:

Most of my quick photos don't really show it, but this knife is really shiny:

Damn, thanks for the photos.. I saw this in the catalog I got in the mail. I love the orange bits!

thats a carbon fiber OD. and i LUV it. anyway it kinda looks like a wannabe ZT or a cooler sage. but i dig the shinnyness and flipper though.

Looks like the grip is shorter than the Southard. Do you find your pinky sliding off the rubicon?

You have to ride your grip high with the index finger tight against the guard and then it fits. That would also be normal if you have your thumb on the jimping.

Southard handle: 4.55"
Rubicon handle: 4.40"

But the numbers are misleading because the Southard curves towards the fingers at its longest point whereas the Rubicon tapers back towards the palm and you lose finger gripping surface.

Man, that is a beautiful knife. I'm not sure I like the design of the pocket clip, but the rest of the knife is magnificent.

i agree dan. here is nice moderatly elegant shiny CF knife with a...
IN YOUR FACE pocket clip.

WHERES MINE?!?

I pre-order one and now I see them available on other dealers websites. I would have paid the extra $20-25 to get one sooner.

Glad some of you are getting to enjoy yours.

To people complaining about the pocket clip:

Look up Carey custom knives. One of his customs is named the Rubicon and his collaboration with Spyderco basically mimics that custom. Pocket clip included.

So you really are getting a super custom design knife at a fraction of what the Rubicon customs cost.

Just saying

Thanks for the well documented review, it's just great when you can get a good view of size , the use of a ruler , up against other models etc . Fantastic looking knife, having fun.

I love when they come in the Zippered pouch. My first was the Lionspy! That was the start of the pouch buying for all my favorite spydercos! lol
