Folks, it's with great difficulty that I make this post. Rich Lanigan of Red Trout Knives passed away today. As many of you know his health was not very good of late, and although his spirit was still as lively as ever his body just couldn't go on. He lived a long and happy life and had adventures that most of us could only dream of, and recently told me that he he was content in knowing that he had nothing left in his bucket list. I'm sure a good number of you have heard his stories of yesteryear, and know how adept he was at spinning a good yarn. The amazing thing was that most of it was true!
These last couple of batches of Red Trout knives were the culmination of a dream he's harbored for many years. Being an avid knife collector and dealer for most of his life, he wanted to leave a lasting legacy that would live on long after he was gone. He accomplished it with literally a day to spare, and though I'm incredibly sad for his passing and for his loving family, I'll be forever grateful to him and honored for letting me be a friend and a part of that dream, and happy that he was able to finally see it come true. I'll miss you buddy! :(

Eric

Eric - that’s real sad news, Is there a link or something where we can read more about Rich and his Knife World etc?
Loosing such good friends is so very hard. I hope you and his family find comfort knowing he had such a great life.

That is terrible news.

Richard also told me that he wanted to leave something behind in this world, and he succeeded on many levels. His Red Trout knives will always be a treasure, and I know he is survived by at least one daughter.

ea42 ea42 could you please consider asking his daughter for permission to post his obituary in this thread and maybe also in the Red Trout knife thread?

I only spoke with Richard once, and his daughter a few times, but they were both very nice people.

Sorry to hear about your friend, Eric!:( I knew him briefly years ago, and what shined through was his love of knives!! The knife community will miss him!! I understand him wanting to get the knives of his dreams produced!!
Glad he got to do it!! Glad you got to be a part of that Eric!!

Wow I am so sorry to hear this, RIP Mr. Lanigan. It was an honor to get to speak to him just a few short weeks ago on the phone. Prayers sent for his family and friends.

Man, what a bummer. I just spoke to Rich a few days ago and he was as happy and joyous as could be. It’s a bit comforting to know that he had family around him near the end. We all just want to leave our mark. I’m sure a character like Rich did so in many ways to the people around him that he loved and loved him... And I’m happy Rich found a way to “live forever” through his Red Trout knives. I know they’ll be cherished by all.

Rest In Peace Rich.

Sad news indeed. I only spoke with Rich a few times by phone but of course that means I had the privilege to hear from him for several hours. Those conversations were always memorable and interesting and he ended each call with an invite to call again. Rich knew how to make friends and he truly was a friend to many. I take comfort in knowing that Rich lived a good, satisfying life and that he knew the Lord as his Savior.
Rich was well loved by family and friends and I'm happy to say that I count myself as one of them. My prayers and condolences to all who knew and loved Rich Lanigan. Happy trails Rich.

Very sad news indeed. I’m glad I got to be apart of his dream of these Red Trout knives. I take comfort & rejoice he is now with his Lord & Savior. My prayers to his family for their loss. Thank you Eric for bringing these wonderful knives to us through Richard.

Prayers for his family.... he told me on the phone that he wanted to "leave a legacy", and that was why he had these Red Trout knives put together. Seemed like a very nice guy.

Eric ( ea42 ea42 ) - I am so sorry to hear this. I only spoke to Rich a few times on the phone, but I can tell you that he spoke so highly of you - not just as a talented knifemaker but as a friend.

Rich was truly a character, I am happy that you were able to help him achieve one of his dreams with the Red Trout knives.

Sending prayers and positive vibes to you and to Rich's family.
