OK I just tried the sharpmaker for the first time. The results are really impressive. And that's great news since I've got some 10 knives I need to sharpen.
So thx Spyderco.

Oh and can anyone tell me how to explain the lack of hair on my arms now?

Hormonal imbalance caused by Spydercious Edgius Testius? (use latin sounding word's and nobody understands anything and it sounds valid reason:D)

Hair grows back...yeah I know what you mean. I put off buying one because of the price but it is well worth it. Since I got mine I've turned into a sharpening fool. It's so easy to learn and use that nothing is safe from it. Well worth the admission ticket.

Now I'm just running around looking for things to sharpen. And my neighbors are freaked out because I asked them to give me their knives to sharpen

I got one this summer and I had no hair on my Left arm and almost all the hair was gone on my right leg. Call me a sissy, I don't ming shaving my legs thanks to my Sharpmaker. My wife laughs at me all the time when I wear my shorts. Who wants to test a knife on paper, hair is much more fun....

I love my sharp maker another amazing product from Spyderco!

Just an idea, but don't dogs and cats have plenty of hairs....?

The Sharpmaker is knife sharpening for dummies and when it comes to knife sharpening I'm a dummy. Respectable results by following some very simple instructions. I like the hand guard set-up also. I haven't lost a finger yet :).

I just used my Sharpmaker to put a very nice edge on my ZDP Stretch. I bought this knife as a way to really test ZDP hard, and over the past 3 weeks I've been able to significantly dull the factory edge. I was interested to see how hard re-profiling and putting an edge on ZDP actually is.

Compared to what I had heard online, putting an edge on ZDP was about the same as any other steel. Definitely not as effortless as something like 1095, but it's back to whittling hairs fairly easily.

The Sharpmaker with the diamond and extra fine hones really does make for a fairly inexpensive and universal system. So far I've never encountered any hangups with it, except for using too much pressure and being sloppy when I first got it. I always read about other sharpening setups, but still can't justify the cost/hassle.

Well I used to sharpen free hand with stones, but the stones available were sucky so they didn't really get the job done. And the great thing about this is that anyone can use it plus you don't have to be concentrated 100% on it.

... oh and yea pets tend to have hair

I got the extra stones for this system and I don't really use them. I find that I can get a good edge just using the fine stone, and I haven't had a real use for the diamond rods. I did break one of the brown stones but I glued it back together and it works just fine. Make sure you clean your rods after each usage or they will not sharpen correctly.

At the recent Plaza Cutlery show in Costa Mesa, Chris Reeve was sharpening peoples knives for them on a sharpmaker. He was fast too. Gundude73's Sebenza got a quick touch up from a legend, and if he uses one, well..........

i was shocked at how fast he got my sebenza sharp, i literally turned my head and he was already handing me my knife back

Well it works really well, and with the instructions it's simple. Haven't tried it, but if i got a dull potato peeler to freaky sharp it should do an amazing job with a little practice. And my sharpening skills are not too good

+1 on the Sharpmaker, there's really no excuse for having a dull knife now, it really is that easy.
