Some Strider SNG/SMF Q & A...

I'm hoping to get some opinions on the different styles and versions of the most recent SNG/SMF line. Such as preferences for looks and function, and feel in hand.

Please reply to all or some areas such as:

- Blade shape
- Blade finish

- Handle material
- Handle texture
- Handle color

Ex. Drop point vs. tanto, satin, tigered or digicam blades, smooth concealed carry vs. gunner grips, plain and flamed Ti, and handle colors. Etc.

Thanks...and please...all I'm asking for is opinions on these things. Not whether they are worth the cost or any other controversial part of Strider discussion.

I really enjoy my SMF dgg. Drop point. I used to have a SnG tanto, but the tanto edge angle was too big. The SMF tanto is better. I don't like the 3/4 grinds at all. Don't know why they went to that, as a full flat grind blows it away.

Dgg's are similar to CC's as they are both concave handles, but the Dgg have the dimples that's about it. The Texture on all Striders is awesome. DGG's and CC's feel great and even the regular has very nice textured g10.

oh and for finish I prefer satin, but my DGG is tiger striped which is ok. If you can still find a CC with a satin blade and a flamed Ti those are sweet.

I just sold my SMF...it was a regular one with tiger striped blade..if your looking at getting one, i would go with a CC or DGG with stonewashed blade...the regular ones are really wide and i think i woulve been happier with a CC or DGG and stonwashed blade for sure...i wouldnt get a tanto either...the regular drop point is the way to go:thumbup:

I like the drop point, stone washed blade with black handle. Like this

drop point stonewash CC in w/ever color (I like the green)

of course if you have the coin get a DDC recurve :D

It may have just been mine, but the cc side flexed a bit when held firmly, and it was bit disconcerting. For that reason I'd suggest one of the other grips. The strider warranty doesn't cover the blade finishes, so if you are concerned about looks the stonewash might be a good idea.

I love the look of a stonewash. I have a DGG SNG and would say it's worth the extra because it's so much lighter and thinner. It fit's in the pocket pretty nicely. It also looks amazing. Even non knife people comment on what a great looking knife it is. I also would strongly recomend the drop point. With the relatively small cutting edge of the sng smf for there size it would seem to me that it wouldn't leave you with much. I find tanto to be very hard to sharpen also. That being said I am not the best sharpener in the world. So I would say any handle color but definitely drop point/stonewash/GG/CC in that order of importance JMHO

Ive got an SMF cc stonewash and smooth black black G10 that carries great

doesnt feel like as heavy as it is.I would definately reccomend stonewash

over tiger stripe...stonewash wont show scratches like tiger stripe does.

Thanks for the replies.

Any thoughts on the digicam blade? I think it looks cool...now. But not sure about 5 years from now. The stonewashed is a classic look I'll always like.

Depending on availability, I'm leaning towards a black or green drop point with DGG and stonewash.

Tough call...they all are sweet.

If you have hands that are at all on the large size the SNG isnt going to be

big enough in the handle and the cutting edge is only 2 3/4".:D

When I bought my SnG a few years back, I searched everywhere for a stonewashed blade with the flame finished titanium. I lucked out.

Hands are average sized I suppose...

That's one of the reasons I like the SNG it is a tad over 8". Its just perfect. Seems many folders are in the 7" range(or less) and then jump up to around 9".

That's also why the Spyderco Para(8") is one of my favorites too. Perfect size for my EDCing.
